Nope, not at all. Just a heads up for makin your horse live a nice long life...the way Hondas are meant to And yeah...might have heard sumthin 'bout them ribs...
Well now, ifn I had the acreage to be able to cut and haul single logs, then that's the way to do it, I reckon. Nice simple tool
I've seen various atv log arches before, either I've never noticed that diagonal rod lifting idea, or they didn't have it. Your buddy's design is so simple, brilliant & foolproof. Give it a good 'snatch' when starting out to get it off the ground, and if the log were to start to 'over run' the atv, well it can't, it's now dragging in the dirt! Wonderful design imho.
I looked at a bunch of them, and most used some sort of winching system. Northern tool had a similar one for cheaper, but it was much cheaper construction too, and smaller. This one has 24" clearance between the wheels, and all terrain tires with greasable hubs.
Well I've put a couple miles on this thing this weekend and I gotta say, it's awesome!! It actually works better dragging bigger or longer logs - the extra drag helps to lift it to the top of the bar right away. Under about 6' you really have to keep your speed up to keep it off the ground. I'm really getting a system down now. Park the quad near the logs, bring the chain and cant hook on the first hike and get the log choked. Closed side of the hook in direction of pull. Wheelbarrow the arch over and hook onto the log. Back up the quad, hitch up, and drive it out to the yard. Drop the log, unhook the trailer, pull forward, use cant hook to roll it out of the way. Repeat as often as necessary. Most of the time, the log is not in the right position where you can hook up tight and go. So what you can do is line up the arch the way you need to go, hitch up the log and drag it a little until it straightens out, then back up over it with the arch and hitch it tight.
I'm not sure, but the tires on the log arch look like they have too much air in them. They appear to be really bulged out in the center. Better give them a check, Shawn
Well you were absolutely right Tim! The one tire maxed out my gauge! I bled them down to 20. Thanks brother! Yeah, wait till the bulldozer gets here... I think that whole area in the back yard will need to be re-graded in preparation for building the pole barn. But, I wasn't planning any work for the front yard! There wasn't much grass in that spot to begin with; it was all pine needles. But after we get through this first batch I'll probably try to stage the rest of the logs in the back yard.
