I had forgotten about the gas aspect, and yooperdave reminded me of the beef dogs that Sam's had, kosher I think but very tasty.

I’m familiar with BJ’S . They have a great selection of steaks / Burgers etc . I usually get Milk for the kids there. It’s half the price from the supermarket

Costco is great, we buy everything there, food, gas, clothes, tires, chickens, pizza, TV’s etc.. more upscale than Sam’s and BJ’s but mark stuff down on occasion to move it out which offers some really good deals, they call them “treasures” because you have to hunt for them.

I’m not a big shopper, but I like going to Costco. Great return policy if something’s not right.

We have the upgraded membership and it pays for the whole membership with the yearly rebate check…

Unless you buy alot of stuff there I don't think any of the clubs are worth the money. We had BJ's and Sam's in the past but now that the kids are grown we don't buy enough to justify the fee or extra 20 minute drive to either

I disagree; I will pay $60 bucks a year for these reasons :

Cheaper gas usually 15 cents per gallon cheaper
    Kirkland brand is pretty good
Quality of customer is better because of the fee!
(Better areas and people if wife want to go by self)
Sizes last a month =‘less shopping

you will need freezer and food saver

Usually the closeouts have an asterisk (*) on the price card...This indicates a discontinued item

At $0.15/gallon less you would need to buy 400 gallons a year to break even. Without the being the kids taxi we don't use that much. Since we have three traditional grocery stores within 2 miles if you follow the specials it will come out cheaper in the end. Also we don't buy much frozen food. All of meat comes from a local place that raises their own

Well Ohio dave we got 2 cars, our kids got a car and MIL who stays with us during holiday and Dr appointments.
So 400 gallon between 4 cars is what? a couple gallons a week per car.
Next I am glad you got regular stores in 2 miles
Not our situation and Most of real Maine is like where I live; over half a mile RT to my mailbox.
10 miles to a red light more to nearest grocery.
Also not buying frozen food as much as chicken beef ham Turkey frozen veggies and freezing what won’t be used in time..

also IME what Costco has that is regular food that is slightly higher in $$ is also higher in quality.. example tomatoes you can find cheaper at Shaws Costcos are organic shaws are not.

I like labels I can read and understand without calling my nephew who a biological engineer

Never been a 'member' at any store. My rough calculations show that they take in $7,020,000,000 annually just from membership fees ($60 x 117,000,000 card holders). If I gotta pay you to shop at your 'store', I'll shop somewhere else.

    We do BJ's , a year membership is $20.
I think we probably saved close to that on the first outing.

It will pay for itself multiple times before the year is out.

I guess I could pay for that membership in gas savings in under a month just doing my job.

LOL, we had a PACE too, that is now a Sam's Club where I used to live. Flash forward Costco came to where my Dad & his wife lived, they loved the meat aisle, bought tres and car batteries, even a living room furniture set there. Canadian border VT showed me fleece lined jeans there a few years ago. After living in previous city for 25 years we finally got a Costco that opened just after we moved...

PS, I bought a new Sams club membership in the 2020's, they ship heavy things to me 100 miles away for minimum $ order which is less than the gas to get to/from much less the time it takes. Too bad meat can't be shipped lol.

Had both a Sam’s and Costco card last year, they are less than a mile apart but an hour away. As many others have said Costco is a little more upscale but more expensive.
Sams gas is gtg but many time will have a line 5 cars deep on each pump. We have a Buc-ee’s opening this year. For those who don’t know about Buc-ee’s it is the Mecca of gas stations, 53,000 sq ft and has 120 gas pumps. The first one I saw in Texas I had to turn around just to see if I really saw what I thought I saw.

We use Sam’s mostly for bulk items for home and office. Dropped the Costco card as Sam’s shipping is a lot better and my in-laws have a Costco card we can go with them if needed. Many times Sam’s will ship cases of water to me for free or minimal cost.

Just in one vehicle I do 400 gallons in 3 to 4 months...I should always fill up at Costco or Sams, but I don't pass these places on my daily drive. I do try to fill-up there if I can though.

Since we have BJ's and it is on the way to work I hit the pump this morning. 87 lemonade is .32 cheaper that any of the local stations , so just over $6.50 in savings from my 21 gallons.
The $20Membership has paid for itself in less than a month. We have two close , one is about 3 miles from me and on my way to work , the other is a little farther ( maybe 10 miles? ) but is also larger and nicer.

For us it works out well.

The plus membership usually ships for free. We have it, because the wife’s work pays for it, but we use the snot out of it.
