I get $80 a face cord here in Wisconsin for red and white oak. If my customers buy 3 face cords the 4th is free. My customers come back every year because I don't cut junk. And they know it.
I am north of you, but not White oaks. Never heard of it. I am in Luzerne County. Last year when it was my first year in my new house I was behind on wood. had to buy 4 cords. I never paid more than 175. All that I got was under 25 percent moisture.
Most of the ads and signs I see around home say by the cord when they are actually referring to face cord! That said the general “mixed hardwood” face cord is in the $90 range. As soon as someone writes cherry, hickory, maple it jumps to $115-$130 a face. Go 15-20 minutes south or east of me and you can find the same stuff $70! As far as seasoning goes.....a lot of times it’s just split into a big pile or you might get someone that’s at least stacked it off the ground. I have to add, in searching craigslist for input on this thread I just came across fresh split seasoned 1 year cherry for $130 a face....
Washington law requires wood to be sold by the cord, that it be at 20% or less moisture content, and that the seller provide a written statement of the actual quantity, species, and moisture content. The one time I bought wood, none of that occurred. Well, it was a declared 2 cords, but the stack didn't line up with that. Here, I think Douglas fir cords go for $220 - 250 delivered, pine for maybe $50 less. Tamarack is our hardwood, and it would probably go for $300(?) for a cord.
This guy doesn’t put a price in his add but I’d bet his “Vermont native”firewood is pricey. On a side note I think there are some laws about crossing state lines with wood.
