1st time I tried it ,,,, took a long time. Had a wide sheet of aluminum flashing I staked into the ground as a heat shield around pot and it came up to temp a lot faster.

If at all possible ... sweet corn picked in the morning will be better tasting than the same corn picked later in the day. Something to do with the starches in the plant getting stored in the kernel overnight while photosynthesis isn't at work, and once a certain temperature is reached the starches return to the leaves to fuel the photosynthesis processes. However the ability to dictate what time corn is picked is usually only an option if you grow your own. :tractor: :chef:

First ears out of the patch last night. Still a bit young, but not bad. 4EF7F5AE-C1D9-47F2-A132-2971C5C38C92.jpeg

Don't have to be old to suffer from that.

Must be the variety or our soil at the house because it’s sort of mushy almost. Doesn’t have that real nice snap, but decent flavor. The Japanese beetles on the other hand!!!

I would expect Japanese Beetles to be a little crunchy.

They are like caviar. Nice crunch on the outside with a tender center.:loco:

Actually the darn things mow off the silk then work there way down peeling open the husk and chewing off the kernels and inviting in other bugs.

I thought that myself last night! The bugs, critters and birds always seem to know when stuff is ripe for the pickin’! Just brush them off and eat the good spots.

I didn't soak it in water but when we had the microwave, this worked really well. No corn silk left on the cobs.
