Got a container when I was with the ex and used it to store stuff we didn't want mice to get into, but was seasonal - sled, 4-wheeler, etc. Like WeldrDave , ours was on cribbing as we were on the side of a ridge, so not even close to flat ground. We got a used container - sent the first one back because it had so many gaps and rusty, jagged edges (not what we were supposed to get). Second one was nice and tight. I don't remember if there was any ventilation, but don't recall any mold. It could be that it was well under the trees, so didn't heat up from sun. This was bought around 2010, so I don't remember price and it certainly wouldn't be relevant now
Just a note, Craigslist has them advertised in every state. Also keep in mind, they are a commodity! Prices will go up and down with supply and demand. Actually, now is a very good time to buy one, the prices will go up in the fall, I noticed that when I purchased mine.
We have a specialty supplier here in my Burg. They are experimenting with selling 'houses' made from. They have multiple levels of niceness from unused to 'watertight'. Kinda an odd enterprise for a company that makes it's dough hauling frac water but whatever, he must have made the right connection somewhere along the line.
I wonder if anyone has considered buying an old semi trailer or even a large box off a straight truck. We used to see several but now the containers seem to have taken over.
Don't know for sure since I have no experience with either but...... I think the storage container would be much more robust than an old semi trailer. There have been a few of those containers showing up locally. I wish the owners would be a little more tactful in the placement of them, though. I wouldn't 't mind having a couple. Sure could be useful!
Mine were used but "watertight". They have scratches and dents, but they ARE tight. One door is a little weird shutting but it's the bar/toggle is bent a bit. When I looked for some, the new/unused ones were $4500.00. That's why I said Jump on one for $3350.00.
Found this picture of my 2 containers. Notice the boat vents high in the back and mid way in the container. The front vents are low in the doors and wider. I won't get into details on why I did this but it WORKS Well and even if it's 90º outside, when I open the doors, the thermometer inside has only increased by about +5º which is really good in my opinion.
