That's crazy that you have trouble with the hoe on..... Backhoe hanging off the back should be plenty of ballast with loaded tires! I would try some serious 3pt weight if you don't have to have the backhoe mounted.
My biggest problem with 2wd traction is when I'm moving firewood. Figure the loader has 300lbs or so of wood in it but the trailer has 1200 or so + the weight of the trailer. I can't put a 3pt weight on the rear when I'm pulling the trailer and there is no way I'm making it to where I need to in 2wd. I moved the axle back a foot or so on the trailer to give it a bit more tongue weight and it helped but no miracles.
btw, Mastermech, if you happen to run into any suitcase weights let me know. Adding a bracket to my 3pt trailer hitch would be ideal and it would keep it nice and compact.
The ballast box has 400lbs of suitcase weights in it plus (2) 45lb weights on each wheel. I would actually prefer your setup with the suitcase weights on a nice 3 point trailer hitch over the ballast box. Just seems like it sticks out more and it eliminates being able to use the 3-point while the loader is on.
Thanks! I actually made that myself one Saturday afternoon from some scrap I had in the garage. It's not very heavy duty but It is super handy for small stuff! just wish I could use it all the time with the loader on.
I made one too that takes a 2" receiver. I use it to move boats and my eqt trailer. Mines not heavy either. And with my weld skills I expected the pins to break off as it was one of the first things I tried to weld. But with only a few hundred pounds in the thing its not tested much.
Here's one I built: mine started from northern tools 3 pt tow hitch then I welded on to it. I've got two slabs of metal I could through on the bottom or just toss on all 6 suit case weights.
Sorry to bring an old post back to life... but this just happened. Bx2370 with FEL, MMM, and rear snow blower. Gonna give it a spin today for the first time.
Yea, very cool Beet Stix. I like that rear snowblower! Will need pics or a movie of the snowblower in action. Looks like it's brand spanking new......
