You can tell it wasn't ran on Echo red armor. Looks more like what Echo power blend leaves behind or some other inferior oil. There was some crust in behind the ring in one spot as well. I cleaned the crown off before the pics.

Porting is finished. I decided to run a high exhaust for the CC to see what happens. It's at 105° ATDC. Intake is 75° BTDC. I didn't go crazy polishing the exhaust. I still need to match the muffler to port and open up the can even more than I already had.

You can see how deep on one side the exhaust port goes with this offset design.

Lower transfers before grinding. The black shows what is blocked off by the bearings and seals. Very little opening in stock configuration. 20250625_152150.jpg Red shows where I ground them too.

The great thing is I sold one to a neighbor that is in as good of condition internally and all I did was a muffler mod. There will be a future comparison video too what, if any, performance gains have been had or I took it backwards.

Less than fresh fuel can leave varnish behind. Did piston have a cust on top? Looks like the pic is after cleaning.

I was referring to the carbon in the exhaust port. It had similar carbon on most of the crown and some behind the ring. I mentioned the crown was cleaned before the pics. There really isn't much of what I'd call varnish inside.

I'm using the term ambiguously. Varnish/carbon/fouling are all one thing to me. :emb:

I did the timing advance today then got after the muffler. I deburred everything after the pics and before the stinger was brazed on. All thats left is shortening the stinger to facilitate installation, polish it up, clean the inside of any metal chips and apply the high temp header paint.

The whole shebang comes in and out as one unit. Very easy to work on.

The saw is back together sans muffler and I still need to order the oil pump. That's it for now.

Little update on the old echo 452VL.

Despite having mint looking / feeling fuel lines and a new carb kit and filter, it was still really hard to start. I had to prime it with a squirt in the carb. Several times. Well I decided to take another look at it and I found a pin hole in the line right by the carb. I replaced the line and bam! Fires up like echo products normally do. I still haven't cut with it yet.

I did run it for less than a minute today getting the preliminary carb adjustments with the new line. Look at the oil this thing slings. It would have no trouble oiling the 24" bar they recommend as max length. 20250709_121318.jpg 20250709_121305.jpg

Yes. About a nickel size knob on top.

It could definitely oil a longer bar without issue. Lol
