The air filter on these lets fines in. The filter on my 2511P is very similar but does not. The echo filter appears to have a much tighter fit of the two 1/2s of the filter so I sealed the halves of the redmax filter, as an experiment, as well as making a cork gasket for where the cover attaches and, like all saws, I grease the inlet to filter interface. I have one more trick up my sleeve if it is indeed the filter media itself letting fines in. More on that after I get some cutting in with it in this configuration. The trick doesn't involve cutting a hole and adding a v stack and clamp on filter. I'm trying to avoid that as I prefer the sleek design of the saw as is.

They don't make one for the Red max saws unfortunately.

Sealing the two halves did the trick on the redmax gz4350 saw. I removed all the grease after the pics to verify the O-ring that seals the filter to the inlet does its job. On the 543xp, greasing that mating surface didn't stop the fines. Grease is messy. If I can get away without it, I will. Anyway, pics...
    First the poses. Lol

Zero fines in the inlet or the filter. Just a bit of spit back from the carb. This makes me warm n fuzzy. Lol

Its a cute little bugger. I'm on the hunt for the missing name plate from the pull starter.

I'm happy to report that greasing the air filter to carb interface is unnecessary on the GZ4350 / 543XP saws. Just silicone the two filter 1/2s together and the cork gasket between the filter and lid does the trick to stop any and all visible fines. Couldn't feel any either with ma finger tip. I doubt the cork is even needed. I'll test that after kevin does the porting.

Well, I decided to do some enhancements to the CS-400. As far as clam shell saws go, this is the easiest to take apart I've seen yet. More to come.

Some internal pics after I timed the ports with the timing wheel. It's an odd layout. The exhaust port is offset to one side as are one pair of transfers. Those vertical lines in the cylinder are not scores.

    I almost forgot the numbers.

    Exhaust opens at 110° ATDC

    Transfers open at 124° ATDC

    Intake opens at 68° BTDC

The preliminary plan is to lower the intake to 75°. Its already pretty large so not planning on making it larger. I'll widen the exhaust to 65% of the bore diameter. I may raise it s couple degrees to make it more of zippy limb saw. I'll decide that later. I'll study the transfers and see if I can do anything with them. I'll match the muffler inlet to the finished exhaust port.

I didn't measure squish band clearance as I cannot change it anyway.
