-28F pilsong range complex ROK in january of 90, was cold enough to toss hot coffee out the doorway and watch it break when it hit the pavement outside.

miserable weather to be doing an aerial gunnery range with our cobra's, especially when us gun bunnies were reloading with birds at flight idle i'd not have a clue what the wind chill was under those rotors but its was so cold we were having trouble even in our extreme CW gear

Christmas Eve afternoon 1983 on county road N72 in Guthrie County,Iowa.Bright sun,NNW gusts 60+ air temp minus 25,windchill 95 below zero.Blizzard conditions across western 1/2 of the state, airports & interstate shut down I found out later.
Barely half mile south of parents acreage, almost 2 feet of snow in previous 2 days, whiteout conditions.Heading south down that gravel road,3 ft drift across road ahead of me.High centered that '75 Dodge Power Wagon on that sucker.Should've hit it a little faster....What really sucked is that there wasn't a shovel in the truck,so Dad & I walked 1/4 mile back north up that road to the neighbor's farmhouse to borrow a couple shovels & they took us back in their truck so we could start digging out....

We learned our lesson that day.I never go anywhere without an emergency kit including an aluminum grain scoop in the truck. No matter what time of year either.
