    How deep is it ?

The lake across the street from me is, at most, 5 feet deep in spots and is bath water by mid-June. Full of leeches though so you have to be pretty desperate to jump in it purposefully.
Across from that is a tiny pond made as deep as the cable on the drag line excavator would go and you have to be a pretty hardy soul to try to swim in it even in September.

Yea I have a brother that went to boarding school for HS and then onto ivy league colleges! I'm his redneck brother that stayed in his home state went to Clemson for both degrees. I'm only the first person from my dad's side who went to college. Dad left the farm and became a lawyer. His two kids both hold post bachlors. Between the 3 of us we have enough college time for like 5 people or more to get a bachlors!

Some jokes, but we're pretty much right on for SC as I was growing up in the 80s, 90s, was that no one was more than 3 generations from the farm, now it's probably 4, and that every one was connected by like no more that 5 degrees of seperation. Meaning you either were related directly or indirectly or you knew the same people no more than 5 removed. So like a person you know knows that person or is related.

I grew up in Charleston, back then you knew everyone. I have heard that like more than 60% of the people in charleston are not even from there now! The metro area is twice the size it was when I was growing up in the 90s.

billb3, lake Champlain roughly is 115 miles long, 15 miles wide and over 300 feet deep in spots. Biggest city is Burlington they get water from lake, its generally around 90 to 100 feet deep at ferry dock. It goes into Canada and empties out st. Lawrence sea way to Atlantic.

My bad:emb:, VT has hundreds of lakes, our lake or the lake, is common nomenclature for Lake Champlain in the area.

We had 50° and a few hours of sun, so I worked on my maple stack. I've been instructed that the mini-split needs plenty of air, so I have to stay back! IMG_20180418_17666.jpg

Are you as impressed with your mini-split as I am? I've been "off wood" for almost a month, this is the first real heating use of them we've had and the elec. bill actually went down!

    It's complicated, but I don't think so.
I have a wood boiler that heat's our small house but it's FOR heating the shop. When I feel it's warm enough to cut off the shop heat, we go to oil for the radiant (floor) until it's time to open the windows. The m/s along with the radiant keeping the slab warm is nice, and if it were not for having a slab on the 1st floor, (although insulated, it can get cold) we'd be fine with the m/s. Elec. bill today was $89, now I didn't have any big shop projects (no welding) this past month but it's normally around $115 all winter. The wood boiler had a 1/3? hp blower motor on it and it ran 793 hrs this winter since 12/11/17.
"Heat pumps" were a 4 letter word to me in the past, never owned one but had plenty of buddies with them with huge elec bills and a cold house. We put the m/s in more for the a/c, but the heating "side" has worked out to be a pleasant surprise.

We haven't turned it on yet. We got it for the AC. I'm still burning wood, and we have a natural gas boiler, so it's doubtful that we'll have the occasion to use the mini-split for heat.

How many kilowatts is that bill for? U can't get my bill below $150 a month and that's without central heat or ac just the wood stove blower and some desk fans moving air. I have no shop.

I thought "they" say the we have some of the highest elec. rates in the country?

Just looked up mine. I used 1076kwh on the bill I just paid last week or so. First 800 hours was $109, the last 276 hours were $36, renewable energy fee of $0.91, franchise fee of $4.69 basic facility charge of $10. The power fee was rounded off for each and the total bill was $160 (rounded).

Do you have electric hot water? I am going tank less here soon I am going to get rid of my old water heater. I have one fridge that is now 10 years old. I have a chest freezer that is 15 years old. We have an electric stove, but we don't cook that much really...not like a huge home cooking person. My wife stays with my son at home , there out of the house for like 3 to 4 hours for his school. We have a tv on most of the day but I think I looked and it's like 120 watts, so that's not a huge power suck. We do do laundry and use electric dryer, and wash a load of dishes in dishwasher at least once a day maybe 2x

Oil h/w, LP range, clothes line or wooden rack (in the wood boiler room @ 100* when in use) and an unused LP dryer. There's just me & my wife and a 100# LP bottle will last a year. HWH oil use is nil yearly and the wood boiler does the job all winter.
I'm not complaining, we stay more then warm with 3 heating options for the time of year and seasons. Mostly just surprised & happy with the mini splits.
