Yep, this is getting old. 29F & dropping. 2-3" of wet snow overnight & cold & windy through the weekend. I've burnt way more "good" wood than normal, & no real end in sight. I'd take good sun & 20 degrees over this windy wet crap. Ash & Elm in the furnace.
Still waiting for the polar vortex to bugger off. Wood shed officially empty and need to dig out some snow covered wood tomorrow. Then go tear into next years supply. Poplar and siberian elm in the reactor.
-10c/14f right now. I have a load of spruce/pine in the stove right now which is closing in on the last of my day time burning wood for this season. So Im in the same boat as you saskwoodburner. I guess I missed the mark a bit on what I would need. I have a bunch of doug fir that is around 22% mc but it doesnt feel right burning it so Im getting into some of my good wood that is dry when I should be burning up spruce, pine or fir. Oh well theres more out there in the woods when the snow leaves.
Indian Head, SK - 7 Day Forecast - Environment Canada Right now it's -8°F at the nearest Gov't weather station and the record low is -8.5°F. This station has good records back to 1891. Still burning blowdown Elm which unfortunately is not DED. Lots of DED here. 200 miles south of saskwoodburner.
I think back to my younger days and loved the cold and snow. Today I'm getting a bit fed up with it and prefer warmer air... Still, woke up to more snow this morning. Windy now too.
According to w**derground it is 40ºF out and raining. My thermometer says 31ºF and I look out the window and it is snowing. I'm gonna trust my local data this time. Usually they're pretty close. 2 pine fires this morning and let it go out.
Currently sitting at -13 C feels -21 c, or 8 F feels -5 F. Nice and sunny out, but as always, tired of this long winter. Gonna be really hard on the deer. We had a couple cold and long winters that dropped the numbers through the floor, and this winter is looking like those ones. Time will tell I suppose. Poplar and random piece of pine in the reactor.
A pic I don't know if it's going to show up, but it's currently snowing with a 20 mile-an-hour wind thank goodness April and spring have arrived. I am waiting for temps in 40 s.
32 and snowing here, about an inch on the grass. We had 18 this AM, we're burning 18 to 20 hrs. a day. That's a lot for early April, Maple & Oak providing the heat now.
Going to the shop to build a fire in the Fisher stove ; A nice local Amarillo mix of wood. The Oak is going to get wet. It was in the upper 70's earlier this week= CRAZY. 1:00 AM SAT Light Freezing Rain H 28°L 16° 45% 79% NE 18 mph
24F here with a windchill of 14. Bit Chilly for April, just had an inch of snow fall in less than an hour. Burning NEXT year's Oak & Ash. Ugh!
Today was cold and windy. It was around 19 f and blowing snow. I got cabin fever and went outside and milled up some more beetle kill pine. My wife thought I was crazy, but the saw ran well in the cold weather and I got a few more slabs for my bench. Been burning the usual. Pine, cottonwood, and little ash.
