I saw my first one yesterday. Wife had seen some a couple weeks ago but I hadn't. She also heard spring peepers one time and one time only. The old saying is they have to be froze up 6 times in the spring. Only 5 more times to go...
Sitting at -8 C feels -16 C, or 17 F feels 3 F. While not exactly beach weather, it could be worse, and I can't help think that winter is losing strength around here. We could use some warmer daytime temps, but such is life. Wood is lasting a heck of a long time, and even the oil furnace isn't drinking that much. I've discovered using a blow tube is the easiest way to kick coals into gear after sitting for hours.
Strange winter so far..... Extremely and unusually cold December, relatively mild Jan. and Feb. but now March is fighting on the way out. Temps dropped into the teens (F) last night and just cracked freezing today. We are in for a few days of this by the looks and I have to walk all the way to the wood stacked in the backyard to pick up a sling- full at a time (which does not fill the stove). Oh, the huge manatees! Burning oak and not sparing the whip either- temp. inside is mid- 70's on my coffee table and shirts are optional. And for dessert, a foot of snow this last week. Like the forecast said, 'Snow coming, 12" to a foot'. Brian
32ºF outside right now . Might make it to the forecasted 35ºF burning maple and oak and one stick of pine just for some immediate big flame as I was taking a break, sitting and watching the stove for a minute.
22 here, might crack 25 by the time the sun goes. Woke up to 7* at 6:00, got the boiler filled just in time. Cutting the hardwood back does require more fire maintenance! I feel for the guys who run an owb in places with no hardwood.
A chilly 6 F this morning. Maple in the boiler. My son and I brought another 1/2 face cord in late yesterday afternoon.
At a quick glance, that chart kinda', sorta' looks like it might represent how well Viagra works on people of different ages..... Just sayin'.... Brian
Really warmed up yesterday and is 20 degrees colder today. But, the sun is still shinning so that is nice. Supposed to be windy the next few days. No warm-up in sight. Nuts... In the meantime, we'll keep wood in the stove.
Gotta love March in Virginia! It was 62F today and I was driving with my windows down. Suppose to get below freezing overnight with snow in the forecast Tuesday into Wednesday. I have a nice mix of oak, cherry and autumn olive in the furnace to keep the chill off overnight. We will see what tomorrow brings.
