21f still burning oak slabs at night .. getting in to the 30s during the days .. Sun now is putting out heat again Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
We've been cold enough that I've been loading the stove twice a day again. Not a full load at night though. Burning the last.of my shoulder maple.
Morning folks, I just drove home from work to a nice bed of overnight coals. Added some Apple & Oak to the coals. The nor'easter is underway with about 2" of snow already, winds gusting to 20 to 25 mph. The NWS broke in on the radio with a warning of blizzard whiteout conditions coming with gusts of 50 mph and 14 to 18 inches of snow forecast. I don't have to go to work for 3 days. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the storm.
29°F, clear, frosty. The usual black locust and American elm. I get to go see the VA doc for a semi annual check-up this morning, the VA ain't what it use to be.
Teens with a dusting of 3-4" of fresh overnight stuff. Just enough to get the plows out on the highways.
Actually, it has happened. Metallak, a famous indian of the Coosaukee people who lived in the Pittsburg/Colebrook of far northern NH, used to ride a moose into town. Many years ago, of course, but easily verified. I have a book, don't ask me where.
He's a pretty sharp fella, with moments of absolute silly. Currently -17 C or 2 F and supposed to make it above freezing this afternoon. As for break up, I haven't heard anything so far indicating it should be a problem. Highways and grids are maintained pretty good, so in that sense, they usually dry out while the ditches and fields are a sloppy mess. We had a few high rain and snow years mixed with late thaw in 2013-2014 and it was bad around here. Roads flooding over (grids and highways) and washing out. But in the sense of river ice busting up and causing issues, I think it's a non event around here.
Update: current pics. In the first, not much snow on the truck. Second pic, you can see where the wind is putting it. We are starting to get into the meat of the storm.
28 On and off flurries Forecast is for 18" overnight into tomorrow morning. Gaaaaawwd ,,,,, I wish it would just end!!! Gonna half fill the wood room this afternoon. I checked the 'pane tank yesterday . At 40% . I wanna burn wood/coal 4 more weeks and then ride out the rest of spring in pane 'cepting some cold nights here and there.
32 and that is the expected high. But at least no snow today. Got some yesterday but that pretty much all melted. Still have too much snow on the ground. Sadly the warmup that is coming is now expected to be not quite as warm, but still well above freezing. We'll see come Saturday or Sunday.
30ºF outside here. burning some maple and red oak The weather guessers said light fluffy easy to shovel snow for this one. It rained until 3 AM , then mixed and went back and forth until around 8 Am We had 6 to 8 inches of heavy slushy mush when I shoveled a path to the wood bin on the patio a couple hours ago. Power keeps blinking off for a few seconds just enough to make trying to be online wirelessly a PITA. And of course the red light that indicates a dead battery in the UPS came on some time during the night. This is of course on the desktop and internet modem. Which takes forever to re-initialize. Especially when you're watching it for the lights to stop blinking. But we do have power. Most of the time. And it's nice and warm in the house.
