I get it man. I don't really like it either. But I have never seen an "American" other than those of Latin decent willing to put a tree into the ground for $0.05 a piece. It does bug the crap out of me that they will stay here or come back to work every year and not speak english...or pretend they can't to you. I don't speak Spanish and I am not learning. I find the one to translate or find the boss and have him tell them.

I forget what the contractors in Southeast got. But they competed with Mexican planting outfits and underbid them. The Mexican contractors I've known that lived down south ( lower 48) have said they can always underbid us because their guys will work for almost nothing.
Sorry but I just can't support that.

Milder weather, but windy. -7 c feels -15 c or 20 f feels 6 f. And some snow. Places south and southwest are supposed to get hammered with snow compared to us. Burning through the poplar at a leisurely pace.

-11c/12f right now. I just loaded the stove for a night burn. We have some weird winds here today. When I drove home from the next town there were spots where I couldnt see the road from the blowing snow, I never get used to that.

20 Here this morning, burning down last night's load of elm and locust. 40 and sunny expected. Busy day yesterday, chunked up a bunch of red oak but too wet to get the truck in to load, came home and worked on wiring in the new barn\shed. Heading out to church after I put a small load of beech in....maybe a nap is in order this afternoon.

Enjoying -11 C feels -19 C, or 13 F feels -2 F. Mostly stuck in average weather now, so hopefully smooth sailing. Not sure about the snow yet.

Funny. We had a work crew come in to put up the barn (all steel carports). Four of them and apparently only the leader spoke English. But I figured it out that the others could too just by watching them when I spoke to the leader. I was not upset over it and just though it was funny. They were an amazing crew and I've never seen a 4 man crew work together so good and work so fast. They did well and I treated them well. It showed that they appreciated this too. When they left, I had told them I'd clean up the trimmings because it was after dark. They asked, "Are you sure you don't mind we leave some things?" No, I don't mind. It was amazing how much steel they left me and yes, I appreciated it.

Supposed to hit 40 today but the rest of the week in the 30's with rain and/or snow. Stove is kicking out some heat right now with ash in there.

I had a 2 man crew come put up that steel carport I bought a few years back. One of those same type things. It is like 18x 20 or something open both ends with one side to the ground. It was a little cockeyed at first but it was not their fault it was how I told them to put it up based on drive. They pulled up stakes and shifted it no problem . One spoke too me but I think both knew enough. I was nice to them as well. Gave them some waters and coke and some snacks.

Oh, some of us know what you mean by “kicking out some heat...” it works 3 ways- y’all stay warm; it can “kick” GTG members out of the house; and it makes DexterDay ”kick” out of his sleeping bag and throw a leg over a guy!

Glad y’all are staying warm Dennis. Here’s to warmer temps on the way:thumbs:
.....whenever they decide to show up, that is.

For sure. We also supplied them with cokes and snacks. Would have gladly served them dinner too but they had lunches already packed.

It took them a lot longer here. We made a barn out of it. Fully enclosed. Roll up doors on both ends. Walk in door. 4 windows. Earth augers for anchors.

Dropped 30 degrees in the last couple hours. Not a big deal but it happened so quickly! Feeling like spring this morning, feeling like winter now. They guess it will be nicer again by midweek. It's trying to snow or drizzle or, who knows, dark and socked in. WWW has a batch of home made green chili going

Funny, I associate your garage with the awesome food buffet I've seen from GTG's. But it's still a very nice garage :)
