That sucks. Are you like me regarding access? We are snowed in and mountainous so very difficult to even access any back roads.
It's never as dire as it seems once a guy takes stock lol. Just had a hard look. About 3 big wheelbarrows worth in a snowpile, probably a face cord of high test (ash, siberian elm, chokecherry) under a tarp, and around 1-1.5 cord seasoned on the other side. And roughly .5 or .6 of a cord in the shed says my calculator. Still don't want to touch the other side if I can help it though.
Not mountainous but 3 feet of settled snow . and my ancient Yamaha340 Enticer is burried out in the woods. At least it was a couple years ago. Should still be there. I need to shoe in and see if I can get it started. Then break a trail for it. If they would get the broke down D6 up and running at work. I could take the 8 back to our pit and plow out some decks of tree length and back my truck right up to them.
Cherry and some very dead and punky sugar maple keeping it toasty here. Low to mid thirties, so the 5" of snow is settling nicely and should be bare ground where I ran the snowblower by tomorrow. If I can avoid busting my keister on the ice underneath it for a couple days I should be good - 60s are in our forecast for this week!
Up to 40F now, 31 this morning. 78F in the house with a 24 hr burn of dimensional oak simmering away.
37 with a real feel of 32. More black locust and boxelder. The cyotess are going nuts out yonder. 78 in the house.
Straight up -29 C, or -20 F right now, with temp dropping and wind picking up overnight. Supposed to be feels -36 later. Poplar in the stove and furnace making an appearance.
We r at +7° F here last I looked. Poplar puttering along . I only got 2 gal of ash out of the stove this afternoon. I've noticed we've been burning a good amount less wood since the banking job I did. And combined with the very dry but green and sound fell trees this wood came from. That we've been burning this last week I'm very happy with the results.!!
We got a blast of unusually strong winter weather last night and continuing the next few days. I'm about 500' higher than most of the surrounding areas and got a foot of snow last night. 26° outside now and supposed to hit 20 by morning. 76 inside. Been burning a mix of red alder and bigleaf maple.
We woke up to -27c/-16f this morning. Im sitting by the wood stove with my wife while we plan our day. Theres pine and fir in the stove which is making an effort to heat my house.
Was -35 C feels -40 C at 6 AM, but has warmed up to a spiffy -30 C or -20 F. So calm you could drop a feather and it wouldn't know which way to go.
We were supposed to start getting rain, sleet, and freezing rain by 9 this morning. According to radar, most of it is going to the north of us. I can live with that.
I’m not really burning just now. Had a fire this morning but might stoke up in a bit. I threw in some madrona this morning and had a good mix of hardwood last night. That threw some heat. Wind was howling last night, the cold isn’t usual for here. But somewhat of a welcome reprieve of the damm rain.
About 12 or so when I woke up. Snowing now with a temp of 15. But a decent wind from the northwest makes it chilly out there. Probably got 2" so far.
