20 underneath is just nice winter weather . Bring you up for some nice 40-50 below weather. Actually, with about $2500.00 in proper gear/winter clothing and the right eating . We could get you so you could handle the cold. I've seen oil rig guys that just came off a rig in the gulf . Show up in Deadhorse in January. They had such a Cajun accent I asked a guy from Mexico to interpret what they were saying. I couldn't understand a word they said. I felt very sorry for them . working on a Nabor's rig on NorthStar Island , Prudhoe Bay. They were just stupified by constant 70 below and colder wind chill. It was worse than me being in 100+° heat in lower Alabama. At least I know enough to go hitch a ride in a refer box to get back to cold country.
It’s on my bucket list to experience for sure! I wanna see what’s it like even for a few minutes. lol
I agree. I couldnt get a quad or truck in the bush to do any harvesting and it will only get worse over the coming month or so. Im itching to get out and run the chainsaw but locations are only accessible via sled or snowshoe. Ill have to wait until the valley thaws. From there I will chase the snow up the mountains to the prime locations.
Was 36F with some sun today, but a bit breezy. 12 deg overnight they say, so loading up Oak & Ash. Supposed to moderate even more Sunday-weds. Gonna break out a saw or two over the weekend & block up so logs on the property. Too wet/mushy to haul or skid anything just yet.
It's 16° here now. Burning elm and beech. I'll throw a split or 2 of hickory on with more elm tonight for the overnight burn.
I had a dose of 60° Below while on a crew near Norman Wells, NWT. That was in 1970. I'll pass on a replay.
We might have a warm snap but when you are 100% wood only like me (first time) you still gotta keep it warm! 70 today 38 in morning. That means the house will do some dropping before I get up so here ya go!
15 degrees real feel of something else. Silver maple black locust and boxelder 79 degrees in the house. It's nice.
One of my favs since I’m a newbie is that tho mine is in the basement I can take a gander at it every now and then to make sure I didn’t screw up lol
This was mine about 2 hours ago. Now its 80° in here and fire is dying down. This thing has made me acclimated to temps 45F I can tolerate in the house and up to some 82F but that’s it. In September I was sweating, now its a used to it sort of state.
Fresh off a couch nap and looking at -18 c feels -24 c, or 0 f feels 12 f. A few sticks of poplar to feed the machine.
Temp reads 12, but feels just a touch below zero. Don't know how much it has warmed up already. Got a squall of short lived snow, then it was over. Next four days will see the white stuff landing here.
I guess I’m curious... in round figures maybe too much white stuff fell since it started but realistically how much wood you say has come down altogether?
14 with a real feel of 9. More black locust and silver maple and a stick of boxelder. 74 in the house.
