I just did some random searching one day and made up a list of stove types I thought might be worth investigating, but it wasn't very extensive. Some of them are not much bigger than my stove either, but it's the general style I want. I'll have a look and see if I can find it. I'd like a cat for the slow n low, but probably go non cat just because it's what I know. PE Neo 1.6 BK Chinook 20 Avalon Pendelton Lopi Answer Regency F1100 Regency Alterra CS1200
Ive thought that a cat stove with a bigger firebox would be good for you because of the space you are heating allowing you to slow things down for the low and slow times during milder weather but then having the capability to let er loose when your cold weather hits. Ive been curious about the hybrid stoves myself but havent delved to far into it yet. We have a very long burning season here compared to many so our shoulder seasons seem to go on forever. Not as cold as you as youre aware but cool for way to long. My wife would like to have a cat stove for this reason. Who knows? Its kind of fun thinking about what is next.
Sean; hope your son heals up fast . I take a product called Soqi Go Greens. Digestive enzymes and pro biotics . Comes in a powder that I mix with water. If I have heartburn I take a shot of (1 oz) of raw unfiltered non gmo apple cider vinegar. It works GREAT. Knocks acid indegestion and heart burn right out!! Currently 21 below and still dropping from a high of 8 above today. Made it thru work today . But probably won't make it in the morning. I'm the last person at my work to get sick. Thought I'de beat it. Nope. Mostly white spruce in the stove . And 1 good split of poplar
9 degrees and cloudy, Ash is feeding the boiler, I'm slugging coffee. I gotta' great score on Ash, 7 acres to pretty much clear cut!!
5 1/2 a load of uglies shorts and katycorner longs to burn down leftover coal from last nite. Will load a full jag in a couple hours
It is pretty crispy, isn't it! I'm waiting for the sun to get strong, and then start chipping. Aren't you glad you got that maple when you did?
Supposed to be warming up to 21 today but its 9 a.m. and it's 1°F-17°C, Wind Chill -11°F (-24°C) Only 9 hours and I have to burn down some coals and reload, going to put some ash in Snow coming tomorrow, they say 4 1/2", looks like they get a break up north no snow up there. Don't know about yooperdave though
I've seen forecasts of anywhere from 1 to 8 inches of snow between now and tomorrow night. I'm hoping they miss it as much as they've been missing the forecasts as of late.
We got 10 inches all snow, unfortunately there was still ice underneath. I think we have had ice on ground since Christmas. I dislike ice, currently 22 and another storm coming over weekend, burning ash and cherry.
Sounds like you guys need some good insulated winter corks . When I lived on the coast we would get Lots of freezing rain and other slick ice conditions. Good Sharp corks made everything much safer. These aren't warm enough for extreme temperatures but worked fine down to 10 below or so.
