Leaving my fire shortly for a meal and night away So I shall bid you all a safe and happy burning for the new year
13 out 71 in.....loaded up about 8 with hickory, elm & cherry. Have about 3 or 4 small poplars I want to drop at a new farm so the creek edge will be done in that spot. Hopefully I can get that done later today or tomorrow.
The cold is still holding on, but lessening I think and hopefully breaks in a couple days. Currently -28 C feels -36 C, or -18 F feels -33 F. Poplar and furnace oil tag team still continues. Our Springer doesn't seem to mind the cold as much as our shep/husky X. He's just a pure suck when it comes to cold!
They are saying it will be -20 here at the coldest overnight. And we usually get a few degrees colder. Then -15 tomorrow night. This coming Friday they are saying possibly-28. It would be nice if that resulted in something good. Like killing a whole chitload of EAB!
It got down to -33c/-27.5f but has bounced back to -29c/-20f now. I used my furnace for a bit this morning to reach some of the cold spots in the house. I lose ground at these temps if I rely only on the wood stove. Heating a 2600 sq ft house with a 2 cf stove will only take me so far.
6 degrees outside here in the city with no pity ... 63 inside ... Bills have chance to make playoffs for first time in 17years!!!!! Let’s go ... Buffalo
Always better to have and not need ; then to need and not have !!! Cheers and go Bills ... chance to end 17 yrs of dysfunction Today !!!
Oh. I thought it was a little under -30 for 100%. Either way. I have prayed for thier killing before, and will continue to hope for it. But the fact is their will always be warmer spots and they will survive there and then continue to spread. Just might take more time.
6 degrees here now, but the dang wind is picking up. Got our CB 6048 heating 2 old farm houses & some domestic hot water for our milk house. It’s 71 in the living room so it’s getting the job done but man is it hungry!!!!!! Got plenty of wood just wish it was a little more seasoned.
That would be great if that happened! I wonder how long it would have to be that temperature to do real damage? When we had the mountain pine beetle problem here it was sustained 40 below for awhile that would kill them or a bit milder if it happened in the fall. The idea was that if it happened in the winter the little bugger would build up its natural antifreeze to fend off cold weather.
Had a guy tell me recently that he put a new oil tank in his basement piped it into his continuously circulating loop between his basement & owb filled it with water & is hoping it will reduce his recovery time on his stove. Make sense to anyone?
