I'm honestly not sure. Last year was my first winter here, and it was pretty dry, but I didn't have a way f measuring it. I kept the house cooler heating with forced hot water. I would always wakeup with my nose plugged solid. I'd guess somewhere in the mid 20s?

Sitting pretty at a nice even 10 deg, coals from last night came to life with a little stirring. Some splitter chips and bark were tossed in ,then add some stringy Elm, a few shots with the bellows, and fire.:fire:

We had a very lite dusting of snow about a week ago, it can stay gone.

We got about 4 or 5 inches that will hopefully keep building up, and hopefully by Feb./March we will have 3 or 4 feet. A good base for snowmobiling and skiing, which is what our economy is based on. A Billion(s) dollar industry.

    burning white oak

Finally happened to me yesterday: Put three white oak splits in on a raked out coal bed, closed the door and went out to dinner. Came back an hour and a half later, checked the fire and - the three splits I had put in are still sitting there on the coal bed all sooted up but not burning. Opened the air just the tiniest smidges of moreness and poof!, instant flame.
Not the first time ever but a long, long, time.

That probably wouldn't have happened to a small split of nice dry eastern white pine thrown in for good measure. - just sayin'. :salute:

Looks like we got a couple inches of snow overnite. Headed out to see if I have to shovel now.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Being from the northeast, it just doesn't seem like Christmas if we don't have snow. I know a lot of you out there in the north country get snow too. But I'm not much of a traveler, New England is my world. And we have this quarterback, some guy named Brady.... seems to be pretty good.

Cooling down here again. Built a nice, 'medium' (OK, kinda small- medium) fire around 5:00 AM only to find the kitchen down to 66F some hours later. Lots of coals in the stove so opened the bottom draft a bit, opened the main draft a few notches and threw some oak in there. This wildly varying weather, not only temperature but wind, keeps sneaking up on me!

It was 27 overnight or early this morning, however you look at it. I had the stove packed with oak...red mostly, possible a piece or two of white. And I may have had a big split of locust but I didn't look close and the few left over pieces I had from last year I tossed to the area I pulled that one from.

And also it is a must for the females to be removing clothing. That does not happen if house is around 60 degrees. :D
