First, 12" of snow on the ground, and now the cold. I was ready, with all my Fall chores completed, but it still feels like an abrupt transition.

I know, t-shirt weather wasn't that long ago. Husband: "Why is the butter so hard?"

We're the only species, besides bigfoot that can start a fire so technically he could start one and sit there and warm up. Hehe

Had 5* this morning when I woke up. Been burning mostly locust with a little oak, mulberry, and cherry mixed in.

On another note I should have plugged my diesel in last night. She didn’t like the start up this morning.

Not sure what's goin' on with our thermometer, but it's not agreeing with Accuweather's assessment of local temps.
Supposed to go down to about 15 last night but I never saw anything below 24....same this morning.
Anyway, lots of coals in the stove again this AM (70IAT), so I pulled those up front and added one Ash split to burn 'em up and add a bit of heat. Just loaded 5 more Maple and Ash splits, so I expect the house to get a little toasty......yep, it's now 75 at my desk.
I'm gonna' keep my eye on our thermometer today.

I use to have Accuweather and TWC apps on an old phone , both running with a thing in the notification tray. They never were the same and often times would be almost 8 to 10 degrees appart, even when both were current and updated. I'm not sure what locations they actually get a temp from or if it's averaged between two known locations but I am not in a highly variable area elevation wise. There are some hills here but nothing big where it could matter that much as to where a temp say anywhere 20 miles around me was taken, it should be close.

Pretty sure we have a reporting station fairly close, but not sure where.
I only use Accuweather as a rough gauge, otherwise I use a rock or whatever's layin' around outside. They're back up to their trick of changing the forecast temp to match the actual temp. at least once a day.
HD, I looked at the long term forecast, and aside from some pretty low overnight temps, the rest of this winter doesn't look to be all that cold.
We'll know more in another 3-3.5 months.

Well it always takes me weeks to figure out TWC app on my phone. They have a day running through like 8am the next day. So the forcast low for Tuesday us actually Wednesday morning. Don't beleive me go look up your area on TWC then do the hourly forcast, your low won't occur in that 24 hour period of the actual day unless you just have 2 similar days. The low for aNY day actually occurs in the AM of the following day??? Very confusing.

Should be able to stop burning oak for a while. But we have probably burned more oak already this year than we did last year... and winter is not officially here yet.

Wow really!! Yall must have been like us. We're warm till first of year last year.

Oak is like all I cut so I'm burning it almost all the time. I will occasionally have a little locust or something to mix in when really cold. But not much and it's used for nights in low 20s to teens usually.
