Haha, madness isnt it? They had to wait like 10-15 years for a Trabi. Yeah the shipping would have costed you a fortune. More than the car itself...picture that. 35° F right now and Humidity 93% - Had a big chunk of Oak earlier on - stacked some Birch ontop of that.
Been here most of the day. Plowing & cutting up a couple blow down pines up. 28F with a bit of wind. Just feeding a little Silver Maple now & then. Decent day out after the snow.
Seriously silly warm weather, +4 C ( 39 F). There's some wind, but it doesn't even matter. I let the fire die...poor stove doesn't know what to do with itself.
I've got about 2 cords of 2 year old pine stacked on the porch and ready to keep me warm till it runs out. Been in the pole barn the whole time so it is in great shape and bone dry. Definitely go through it faster than the more dense stuff, but we are plenty warm and no problems burning down the coals
Couple ash uglies and hemlock splits from this morning cooking now. Had a house full of people and cooking today for my little one's first birthday, so wasn't much heat demand even with the grandparents in attendance. We'll go with hemlock and a couple hardwood uglies (Apple I think) overnight. Looks like softwood on the overnights is just about done - some winter weather in the forecast for the coming week. Gratuitous cute baby pic included. She did not love the cake. Loved Dad's grind sirloin chili though. Funny kid! First one had a blast with her cake.
In honor of our first winter storm I broke out some good stuff... Now its not the standard premo most use... Persimmon Its my secret stash, and yes, its real good stuff.
-9c/16f right now just like earlier. Our temps arent going up or down much. Cool air is trapped in the valley bottom and I suspect we are in an inversion scenario. I just loaded the stove to the gills with some very dry old larch. I love that stuff!
17 *F outside with snow flurries and a stiff breeze 82 in the living room i got the stove full of seasoned black locust and the dampers 1/4 open. hard to heat with the wind blowing hard outside. but some heat is better than no heat.
26F right now with about 5" of powder the house is 71F the jotul is on cruise control, feed it some maple and ash for breakfast
Fresh 5" fell overnight, current temp 23°F headed up to 32°F Just dialing in the WS before i go out and push some snow.
68°, by the woodstove. Outside, yeah looks cold. Just sitting and enjoying coffee by the stove with one of the kid's.
12 1/2hrs later I still had some decent coals, and the inserts fan was still running. I cleaned the ash out, raked the coals to the center and just placed a compressed brick on either side (i forget brand but will do a stay away review thread later, they suck) two real small ash spilts on either side of the bricks all going N/S, then two really large walnut splits on top running E/W, and two puffs from my mouth and we were off!
Yes sir, I put that stove in about 12 years ago, didn't really use it much as I also had a Woodmaster 5500 owb. I sold the own last summer, after using it for 10 years without any issues. I replaced one blower on the front door, but figured it was time to sell it before any major problems. Hence my name (woodslave). Cutting for the beast was starting to be like a job and I love cutting wood. My shed is 16x32 and full of wood inside when I used the owb. I would burn all this wood plus. You guys are in trouble, I'm learning how to post pictures (without asking my daughter) Hahaha
20f when I left for work this morning, 71 indoors. Gotta' solid 20 hour burn in the owb Fri/Sat. Stuffing the beast with Ash.
