Holding around 33 out 70 in just fired up for the night. It’s going to get a touch warm in, but if I don’t we will be around 60 by morning. Looks like the snow has drifted south to ski country for the night. Reading the forecast we are dropping into the 20’s the rest of this week into next even some teens. Calling for another 3-5” white stuff tomorrow night. They even dropped the warnings this afternoon.

Sitting at -8 c feels -13 c ( 17 f feels 9 f) and some snow. I think the weather broke and it won't drop anymore tonight. It's not cold by our standards here at the moment, but it's supposed to get within a few degrees of melting tomorrow so that's great. Poplar keeping it severely warm here. And its ugly rough stuff too!

If Im correct I think you will be on the edge of real cold and mild weather the way the jet stream is setting up. Your temps may bounce around like a yo-yo!
Its -6c/21f right now. We just got back from a cadets Christmas gathering. The stove was perfect for reloading so I stuffed it full of doug fir.

Yes yes while I mean that a shower or the like puts out humidity but most of the time Id be running a dehumidifier just to combat that and even with the drafts here, it would get thick as you think it can in a house. We were at 37% and I felt itchy as heck! But I’m ready for bed and that just will have to settle it. I do run small diffusers sometimes, running one now in the den. Its a small one but can help a great deal in the balance

No I agree. The good thing is that the humidity outside is often 50-60% more than in the house so it works well when the door opens or the like.

38° outside. Loaded a basically cold stove with Doug fir, paper birch, and red alder at 11:45. Final air adjustment to about 20% open with a stove top of 550° at 12:05. 20171207_000900.jpg 20171207_000932.jpg

Here is what I ended up with after the blast that came through..Again, Monday night....bare green grass. 2 nights later. well....we knew it was coming anyway. No snow at the moment, all shoveling is done up to date!! this pic is what the total is after two days of snowing and wind....compacting and settling.

I'm burning red oak in the house and junk maple with smalls and uglies in the shop. I think it's 28f outside. The old Earth Stove held a fire all night in the shop and was 55f when I came out and loaded it.

Loaded with all red oak this morning. Went as low as 4 at sunrise. Currently 9, heading for 21 but still windy. Home all day so will be enjoying the heat instead of warming an empty house.

This is interesting Dave. Most times they think you need higher humidity levels but this sounds more in line. Do you remember where you found this info?

If I had to live with those temperatures in the house, I'd quickly move south. Sorry, but I like to sit in the house dressed more like it is summertime. t-shirts are in order here.

We finally had a night where we needed a fire all night. Good coals this morning to keep it going too and very comfortable in the house all night and still when we got up. That, is what wood heat is good for.
