Cool pics. Nice you guys got some time together in the woods. Any idea how thick the ice was at the crossing? Your weather is showing a bit of a warm up soon eh?

In keeping with the thread Im at about -2c right now with light snow fall and a stove full of larch. Looks like we will slowly get back down to normal temps in the next week or so. Bye bye pineapple express!! There wasnt a dancing pineapple so I went with the excitable banana!

7 inches was the minimum. In on of the pics there is a strange disturbance on the right side of the trail. That is where forestry drilled the river ice. In preparation for the ice road. The forester in change of the ice roads , permits is my neighbor. I had a good conversation yesterday.

We needed that good day. Tommy (9) responded really well to the extra responsibility of trail blazer and ax man. I am proud of him he made me proud. He was really happy to harvest wood, and knows this wood will keep the house warm. Best of all he is asking to go back for more. Wants a more active role in wood cutting.

So important for kids to feel important, and have pride in contributing something useful! We give them toy trucks and tools when they are little, so following through with the real stuff is very cool! I'm looking forward to teaching my 4 year old grandson how to split.

Mid to upper 30's last nite, tossed some ash and newly acquired cherry in before bed.
Low 50's today with sunshine, gonna' chase some standing, dead ash this afternoon.

Typical November weather, the slight drying out may be welcomed. We’ll see. Fire last night but might wait until tonight to build another.

Balmy weather here since last night, just a degree or two below freezing. What a nice feeling having the weather give us a break. Not anything on the plus side, but if the forecast holds, nothing below -12 C (10 F) for the next 4-5 days. Poplar kindling fire was all that was needed.

We had 43 this morning with pine going in the heater, they say we'll drop to 18 tonight so we'll switch to burning some better hardwood this afternoon.

    Yeah l
The oak I threw on yesterday morning was still burning as a single coal about the size of a cake slice when I got home around 4. I was really amazed by it as to how well it coals. The ashbed makes a difference in keeping them going. It wasn’t seriously cold but I guess a slow steady heat can be really nice to have all day instead of a raging blaze. What do you put in this morning?

all my wood that is dry (thanks Backwoods Savage savage for getting 3 year plan into my thick skull) is a mix of OK wood.. ash, elm soft maple birch yellow and white and cherry.. my good woods sugar maple oak.. are on deck for next winter.. I personally think I got a great stove highly efficient 88% IIRC (Woodstock ideal steel) 3 plus cubic foot firebox:yes: I have more heat longer burns on about a third of wood... but I live in a colder area..
