A lot of people talk crap about it. It's clean, easy to split, and dries fast...and it grows like a weed. It does leave more ash than others. BTU charts rank it low but I get surprisingly long burns with it.
I checked mine again....the precipitation has been moved to Mon now, Rain/snow mix. But what the heck is up with 46f right now? Sheesh!
20F here this morning, coldest its been to date. It feels pretty cool at 70F inside while the coals burn down.
Hej hej all, 18 F outside today, thought to do some splitting today but there is a lot of snow and wind, so just starting the BEAST (kaklugn) again! Have a nice day all!
Mid 30's this morning, raked around coals last nite, tossed 5 small splits of soft maple in the beast. Gonna shut it down today.
18*F on thermometer clear and sunshine. Burning a little bit of standing dead Elm mixed with Soft Maple and occasional stick of Hardhack, Hickory or W. Oak loaded up the OWB yesterday at 5:00 pm will load it again later today. Plan on splitting up a load of Soft Maple today.
Let stove go out overnight. Wife started a small fire just to take the chill off but it feels like spring outdoors.
It dropped down to about 28 during that slight cold we started this month with but hardly for long. Its the wet cold that keeps the fire going. Looks like some pretty cooler weather towards end of the week with low temps at or close to freezing. Not minding that a bit but I definitely can’t wait for the real week/weekend cold and snow. Some of us anticipate it, others not so much. Can’t argue with the electric heat being off. It only happened once for me but that was JUST before the stove install. Left home this morning with 2 oak splits roasting in Miss October
We had 7 this morning with a high of 47 today. Our first fire was with some better hardwood and then I decided to run a second fire this afternoon around 2 with some pine.
Temps in the 40's and 50's until next Wednesday. Might get some rain this coming Monday and Tuesday. This has been a real warm fall.
it' 36 degrees here BUT winds are 35 mph out of the south it doesn't feel warm... bring ash birch and cherry
its 36 degrees here as well. I just loaded up the stove for the night, and then glanced at the weather. Apparently, its going to warm up from here on tonight, instead of dropping. High of 54 tomorrow, guess I wont be reloading in the morning.
30s tonight and 40s tomorrow, sticking to softwood in half loads since the wind is gone. -edit- Duvekot, your stove it's a work of art! Have you posted any info on it here?
41 now headed for 20 overnight. Pretty stiff northwest wind. Just loaded for the evening burn. Mix of ash, elm, and boxelder should do the trick!
It's 48 with the temp trending up, they're forecasting a low of 39 with rain so we'll burn some pine tonight.
Did a little hoarding, had a river crossing. Took my oldest boy to help. He drove most of the time, made and broke trail to each tree then skinned them.
