We hit 46 this afternoon. The boiler hasn’t turned on in a long time. I took a long walk through the property. I didn’t bring my phone for pics. It was a great day to walk through the woods. I’ve been trying to get out and around it several times a week. Sometimes it happens, sometimes get too busy.
Suppose to be 52 degrees on Tuesday! The ground isn’t anywhere near froze yet. Boy do I wish I had a reliable, working tractor. I could be digging stumps out of the trails while things are soft.
Pine in the fission tube. Hardwood uglies will go in shortly for the overnight burn. It's this guy's birthday tomorrow, so I am darn sure sleeping past my normal 330 wakeup time, and want to ensure a healthy bed of coals for when ever my lazy arse heads out for the morning fill. Sunny and 45 when I got home from work today. Baby was napping so I got a good third of a cord split before heading in for Dada time. Love working outside in this weather, especially after a couple good freezes to loosen up bark.
We broke a record locally today. The old record was 61 set back in 1931. We got to 65 today. It has been cold enough the past few weeks that made the top level of the ground freeze. Today it was really greasy and mud stuck to my boots.
My wife and I had this conversation a few weeks ago. I turned the fan around. She figured I knew what I was talking about since Im part of the collective!
Just for kicks I google mapped Tok, Alaska...I was amazed to see Google has street view available. Took a little tour around your town! With the exception of the fact that I didnt see a single hardwood tree it didnt look all that different than New Hampshire really!
Cool, i saw the google car at the chevron. Talked to the fella, was interesting. Tok is rural Merica, like many others, but this one is mine. Thanks for checking it out, should visit some time. Had a few shooting stars and some northern lights out.
Oh I bet its great! This might be a dumb question but what kind of work/industry is out there? Just curious what people in such a tiny town so far from any bigger towns do for a living? I live in a very tiny/rural town too but I can be in a "city" within about 1:15 drive...so people in my town just commute. Looks on google maps like you're way too far from anywhere big for commuting.
We were up to 55 and sunny yesterday, when I got from work it was 75 in the house, glad I had not loaded the stove in the morning. No fire last night, ng boiler running a bit, may start back up tonight, wife is going to be working around the house changing from fall decorations to Christmas and with 50 and sunny again, you get my drift.
27 now feels like 13 due to a little wind. This will pretty much be the high for today. the extended still shows 30's and 40's for highs throughout the next week! Crazy!
It was darn near 60 yesterday! Crazy! Got all the Christmas lights up on the house with just a light sweatshirt on compared to having to wear carharts and many layers in other years. Cold front came through near sunset and only headed for 36. Let the furnace run last night because it was plenty warm inside yet when we went to bed. Will light a fire again tonight as its headed for 25 over night. Gotta love saving wood! Highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s, lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s for the coming week. Just running overnight fires for at least the next week or so.
Currently sitting at -14 C feels -20 C (7 F feels -4 F) this morning, and looking to warm up not much below freezing this afternoon. I had a nap attack on the couch watching tv last night, so when I woke up I threw a few sticks on the fire, throttled back and hit the sack. Needless to say, she was a cold start this morning. Poplar in the reactor, same as always.
