At the store, the freezer is considered warm ! So I caved. Last night I built a fire and now got one started from the coals this morning. We’re at 41 and raining hard. I had given it thought that I was going to hold off the fire for a few days but the wind chill was bringing the air closer to 40 and below. I realize that if the outside is about 20° colder than average room temps, build one. I also realize I have so many scraps of wood to burn as chunky monkeys, at least those will go in a little at a time and stretch out The splits.
Whew no kidding, I dunno how much of his supply is left but at least having dry wood as a forest to cut down at your leisure rather than waiting for it...can’t be beat!
I have 10 or so cords at the house. And 6.5 million acres of wildfire to cut standing dead from. There is no shortage of wood just time. That’s just one of the local burns, I have several other local ones to chose from.
Waether: Foggy, some rain and wind. Outisde 42,8°F/ Inside 73°F Burning: Fir, Pine, Birch and i spotted some Apple. Took the pic while beein out and about with the dog, its like a 5min walk from my house.
60F and sunny. And I have a large load of red maple simmering at home. Swear the weather report said today was going to be in the 40s Gonna be a bit warm when I get home.
More trash to get started this afternoon, it was fairly warm today... Hearth is loaded with a cherry/walnut mix for overnight. Its going to be mid to low 40's... Not really cold, but I dont want the heat pumps running.
55 here today....low of 45.....no fire tonite. Fire up again tomorrow evening....lows in the mid 20 tomorrow night.....up n down..up n down
In the 40's right now. Burning some standing dead cherry I just cut. 15% on the meter. Burns Great and smells great.
27f out right now and still burning white pine. Getting about a 4 hours of burn time before needed to reload 3/4 full. Pine ain't so bad!
Wow! Assuming a normal size hand (like you're not a midget or an 8' tall dude that can palm a basketball soaked in Crisco) a spruce/pine around here would only be a dozen years old at that size.
6'3" and wear xl gloves, that piece of wood was 5-6 inches, I did not measure. just put my hand as a reference. I am trying to remember but in an inch it was bout 25 rings or so. I have lived in places that had 1/4" or more growth rings in soft wood. our spruce is more tight grained like hardwood.
Currently -15 C feels -24 C, or 4 F feels -11 F. This has got to be one of the breeziest winters in recent memory. Sure gets that turbo draft going.
46 outside, 76 inside.....we had a sunny day so I'm glad I only put about 1/4 of a load in this morning. Have a very small one going now. Cold and snow moving in overnight, elm and ash on deck.
If you ever get bored on a cold winter night, could you possibly take a gander at a piece of poplar for me, growth rings and size of wood? Or was that one of the other fellas from up there that burns a bit of that.
Cold Trigger Finger burns a lot of popular. However, I can cut a tree in the next few days and find out. I have been stopping/scrounging on the way to work and cutting standing dead to burn at work. I can grab some popular, have a good spot in mind from a fire 3-4 years ago. Should be dry.
It will be interesting. I have been enjoying my ms261c, keep in on the back floorboard. Cutting wood to burn at work is putting me in a better mood. Its funny walking into work with sawdust and 2 stroke, and a armload of wood. It was -27* and the saw runs well. I wanted the m-tronic but they did not have one, just the carbed verson.
