I had two dull blades for the big saw, and one sharp one left. And a sharp one on the little saw. But when I hit the rock I just said that's enough for today. And had no problem going back to a warm truck and taking a break while taking the two dull blades for a ride to the wood chop shop for a sharpening. They have some nice stuff in stock there. Had to leave quick!

9 here with a forecast of 17 and clear bright sunshine. I hope the wind is calm.
A low of 2 degrees Thursday nite with snow and sleet over the weekend,,man-o-man, I sure hope the weather guessers are wrong.
I chunked some ash, hedge apple, cherry and mulberry in the "Hungry Monster" last nite, I better go feel the water lines in the furnace closet, I might have to get outside sooner than I want to and feed the fire.

Right about 0° this morning. The boiler is running great. Ate through a completely filled burned chamber Ash last night. I just filled it with medium size splits of Ash about 6 this morning. They are about 6-8 across and 21-23" long. With the temps staying pretty cold most of the day (high of about 20), this load should last until 4 this afternoon.

1° here this morning. Maple, oak, and whatever else I could scrounge up outside last night went in. I'm getting really close to burning 5 cord this winter. It may even go 6 if it stays cold late, like it did last year. I only burned 2 cord from January to May last year. I've got one cord I haven't taken any wood out of yet, and it is mostly oak that is less than two years old. The rest is leftovers from stacks further away from the house, which I need to get to before the 12+inches of snow comes on Monday.
I'm gonna have to buy wood in the spring to supplement any I can cut or get for free this year. :axe:Just was looking into that firewood seasoning shed that Shelter Logic makes. $299 at TSC. I'll probably get it. Just have to find a level spot on the property to put it. Maybe the driveway will have to do.

I'm not sure of our temp this morning (7 maybe) Sugar Maple & Beech heating the house.

Just over 1/3 of a cord of that left for this year, back to burning Cherry,Maple with some Beech in the wood we'll be pushing in.

about 20 here and bright sunshine.
Loaded Ash, Walnut and Mulberry and Hege into the stove last nite, water lines in the furnace closet are still hot.
Scored a nice truckload of Ash and Cherry yesterday. Started brush busting to make our way to an area hammered with windsheer, bunches of downed wood back there.

7 degrees at 3 in the afternoon and its blowin' like Tony Montanna in a Columbian snow storm !!!!!!!!! Prolly the most wind we've had all winter.
    MORE BEECH and coal.
Finally dug into the attached to house woodshed. All beech. Been in there 3 years and was heap seasoned 3-4 before that. This is some nice chit. Stuff that I stacked out back and tarped last fall is of the same vintage but has been outside for 5-6 and is still solid but less than desireable. Still holds a fire for 8-10 hours,,, 12-14 if I mix coal , so no compalints.

Mid teens here, going for single digits tonight. Just put on some red oak splits that if I'm not mistaken are 4 years (and about 100 feet) from the stump. It lit right up on a bed of coals, I like quick ignitions. This would be from when a tree guy came knocking on my door out of the blue. My wife called me at work and said somebody wants to know if we would like a load of red oak. He had spied my stacks and figured it was a convenient place for him to unload his truck. How right he was.

Sucks that that tree got broken off in a wind shear though, it was what shaded my deck in the summer evenings. Now you get the sun in your eyes if you sit out there looking out on the yard. One side of the table is rather unpleasant to sit at if we eat outside.

Mine gave up. 30 mph sustained with those kinds of gusts when its below 0 is clearly beyond the capacity of the one stove solution in my house. Wind is down to 8 mph sustained now...time for recovery.

-7 at the moment, if we have any winds the White Pines are blocking them. We had both the Wood & Pellet Stove going last night, the Pellet Stove hardly ran so the Sugar Maple & the Beech did it's job.

-8 right now. Furnace was completely out when I rolled in at 7am from the lil womans house. First time I haven't been able to start up from coals all winter. It was 43 in the house. Propane and the Chuck running wide open now just to get'er up to temp. It's usually a lil cool in here when I get here in the morning but NOT 43 !!!!:eek:o_O
Told the lil woman the other day that by next winter the sleepovers need to be at my house permanently!!!!!!:drool::smoke::fire:
