phone app shows 9 degrees, but since the pond thawed across the street, it could be 5-6 degrees warmer in my neighborhood.
11 out wind chill at -4 full stove of Red Oak . Temp lower level at 68 main floor 62. Keeping the stove full to get those temps.
3 right now I think that is the coldest nite yet this year. 67 when I woke up to propane going Started back up on coals.
Exact same scenario here. It's march and now we have our coldest night of winter, strange year for sure. Back to 50's and rain tomorrow. Furnace is set to 67 and was running this morning when I got up. Dug some sugar maple outta my endless stacks of ash and fired Napoleon back up from coals. Amazing how fast you can get small house up in temp. Back to 74 in here in about 30 minutes.
Guess I'm the only one with temps about 30 right now it is really windy today. Last night, it was howling all night also. All of you out east with cold temps this morning, I'm sending some warmer air your way....hang on!
We had -9 this morning but nothing for winds, it's 70 up here and 78 in stove room, the pellet stove was turned off this morning and the liberty is loaded up with the maples.
Some sites say -8 and others say 7 so we'll just burn the pellet stove tonight, the basement should be 76 in the morning and the upstairs should be 70.
So I got home from my weekend trip to Red Deer Alberta from seeing the Globe Trotters. The roads were ok but some blowing snow and low visibility. Got in the house and started unloading our luggage and massive costco run (as we live in the rural Rockies) and the wife says the house is 10c/50f outside is -7c/19f and the furnace wont turn on. We normally set it for 14c while we are away. I thought no big deal Ill go check the pilot light. It didnt start after 8 trys so I lit the wood stove which I was going to do right away anyways. I know many of you dont have back up heat but its not something Im faced with often. No problem if I cant get the 34 year old furnace lit as I have enough dry wood to keep us toasty and then save up over the summer for a new furnace. Its probably just a thermocouple which is a cheap fix. My house never gets this cold, even the hardwood is cold on the feet. Im so used to having a warm thermal mass from the wood stove that its a shocker to feel it so cold. The wood stove is purring along and will slowly bring this cold house up to temp and even beyond at some point.
Nice! I sure wish I had some black birch to burn. I hear we have some around in limited hidden quantities but Ive never seen it. I hear its real good burning wood. No oak in these parts!
About 10 on the back porch this morning. Ash going in the boiler. The boiler with the black goo running in its veins turned on this morning when the wood boiler ran out. Oh well, it needs some exercise too.
We're looking at -15 C ( 5 F) or -22 C (-7 F) if you count the wind. Poplar n pine chasing the cold away.
That is a concern still for us since were consistently below freezing still and even have -20 in our forecast day after next. Were not as cold as you right now but its -5c out. I turn the water off whenever we leave the house even on an overnight trip. Its funny, my wife was questioning why I was doing it when we left on Friday and I told her even if it was the middle of summer I would still shut it off. The house is warming up now so we should be fine as far as pipes are concerned.
Still a few cold days until we're in the clear that's for sure. Hopefully your furnace has just a minor problem easily fixed.
up over 40 degrees here today. Solar gain is enough to keep the furnace off for the most part. I'll fire the stove up later on. For now, I'm gonna go work on making the pile of Locust rounds smaller, and the locust splits pile larger. Anyone wanna come stack for me?
We had 5 this morning, I shut the pellet stove off and went with the wood stove. We still have some single digit nights coming in after the warmer weather.
