By the sounds of all the reports being posted, there have been a lot of indications of an early spring!
I'm not seeing much snow in the forecast but it will be cold enough in March that spring should come at it's normal time for our area. I'm hoping the two days in the 50's this week with rain will get rid of some snow in certain areas so I can get us some more Cherry that's damaged for the inventory. 207 this morning so we'll pound down some pasta and some chicken cooked on the grill. We had 24 this morning so we're burning the Maples, hard & soft. At the end of the first week of March we'll switch to burning some Cherry until it's over.
27 this morning. Ash and Pine burning in the boiler. Possibly get to 40 or so this afternoon they say.
Got up earlier than I wanted to and peeked at the thermometer to learn that we were on the nasty side of 0 here. -6f earlier this morning! The forecast called for an overnight low of 8...kinda close! Gonna empty the ashes and haul out of the kicker stove today...maybe another fire, who knows?
It got a little colder than forecast here, we're looking at -25 C (-13 F) currently. Pine in the reactor.
I was surprised to see it was -18c/-.5f this morning although I guess I shouldnt have since it was already -14c when I went to bed. Been out of the house all day but fire has still been going. The coals are a bit to big for a reload yet but the house is starting to cool off inside 22c/71f so Ill be loading er up with pine and fir shortly. Currently -6c/21f outside. Feet are cold for some reason so I plan on warming them by the fire.
50 today, low 37 tonight loading up half to three quarter load of Ash for tonight. Coming up, Some 20s nights 30s and 50s days
I'm not sure what the low will be but we'll throw in five splits of the Maples for the overnight burn.
Been such a nice winter.. was 28 this morn. Nice day at45. Warmer tonight. Black Cherry n poplar it is.
It certainly has been a weird winter. Lots of rain (weather statement) for today/tomorrow, then -21C for Friday night, then bounce back up to 3C Monday. No wonder I've got a friggin' bad cold....
As I'm sitting here right now, on February 28, it's thundering and lightning pretty good outside. Thunder in February means frost in May.
40º outside and supposed to go to 60º today, no wood to be added to the stove. Still hanging at 72º in from last nights load that should go for awhile yet.
Quite a bit warmer this morning than yesterday. Sitting at -9c with light snow fall and maybe an inch of fresh on the ground. Just raked the coals forward from last night then in 15 minutes Ill load it with pine and fir.
Light rain today, and about 40 right now. Might get a couple degs. warmer. Had a small fire this am with 4 pieces of Maple I resplit yesterday, so really 2 normal sized splits. Happy about that. Doing a lot of that lately. Checked with a meter, it's about 14-16% on a fresh split. Only issue is the firestarters are getting used up too fast. Having to do so many almost cold starts is puttin' a hurt on the supply. Gonna be colder the next 3 days, so normal fires will be the .......norm.
Yeah that and more cold starts means more chimney buildup at least thats been my experience. At least youre saving on the wood supply this year!
Just got my extension ladder back from my brother, so I'll be up checking the pipe and cap soon. Stove has been seeming a bit sluggish lately, so ....yeah.
