Had a warm day today but the wind was incredible. I decided to take my bike out to the store because it was 50ºF outside and had been almost a week since my last ride but the gusts to 45 MPH almost turned that into a disaster.
Current temp 34° with wicked winds thewoodlands was talking about, giving us a real feel of around 25° There is a mix of snow sleet and freezing rain, temps only dropping to around 30° tonight. Did a small load in the oakleaf of some maple and birch.
Winds are 40mph now, loading the stove, I had he first back puff ever , big cloud of smoke blew out of the stove in an instant, closed the door , thought I was good , opend the door was putting in more wood , it happened again stove is cruising along nicely now though . I aired it out but, Boy that stunk up the house big time
39º out, 74º in, have a small fire of ash and elm going. Only supposed to get down to around freezing tonight have some beech and ash on deck, wind advisory right now until 4a.m.
Had about 4" of snow this morning, it turned to rain about 1:00 it's now 39* and still raining. They are saying 17* tonight, that should make the roads sporty in the am. Going to load the boiler with oak tonight, as I don't want to mess with it in the morning.
Warning up here - sitting at 33, which is today's high so far. Breezy with cloud cover coming in to hold the warmth. Small load of willow in the beast to warm it up a bit from 100s before the overnight load of maple. I loaded conservatively this morning knowing the warmth was coming, then got distracted playing with the baby after work instead of filling the boiler.
39ºF outside now. 74ºF inside. Supposed to be 50º by morning so one last load late tonight and maybe have a couple short quick pine fires for the next two days. I'm almost out of split pine and it's only January.
39 Loafing along on a massive cherry split, some junk-fuglies and coal. Will prolly still be making heat at noon tomorrow .
38 here now, it's the warmest it's been in a while and warmer still to come. I've been burning small stuff, branches really, since the afternoon, to get me to the point where I could shut down for a badly needed ash cleanout. No more feeding the beast, she's going to go cold for said cleanout. A big change from 2 deg this AM. Now the snow will melt and get messy. Ugh.
Cold. Windy. Snowy. Dark. Think I'll go back to my third day of crawl space job in a hoarders house! (Only thing is, not a wood hoarder)
Letting the stove go cold. Temps well above freezing, but the drive is a skating rink. Winds are still strong.
Good morning, 32 to mid 50's with rain later. Spent most all day yesterday burning down charcoal, big winds last evening,,BIG winds and a thunderstorm rolled thru which was pretty wild.., temps were mild, had to close the woodshed door as rain was flowing across the gravel and into the shed !! A sleet ?(hail?) mix got pretty loud on the metal roof. Finally loaded a few splits of ash in the beast.
34º out 73º in....wind finally slowing, heading for 50º today and the snow is already gone from the rain we had. Gonna put a few splits of something in, maybe ash to keep my bride comfortable today.
Forecast of temps in the 50's this week. Shoulder season in mid-january? Looks like I'll be feeding the stove with shorties and some maple splits for a few days. Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk
