Woke to an ice glaze, main hiway wasn't bad, temps heading to hear zero degrees with wind, all hardwoods for the hungry monster
No burning here yet as of now but hopefully in a couple more weeks we will be in our new house with the new IS crankin'! It is currently -24 and only headed to -10 for the high today. Living with my parents, with the 3 kids is getting quite old but days like today make it worth it. They get to bake and make party mix with grandma today! Fun way for them to stay inside when its this cold!!
-11 outside, may drop a couple more degrees in the next hour. 68 down here, loading up with more of that old Mulberry/White Oak/Honey Locust again.
Hovering at 32° been freezing rain since around 2- 3am on and off, a few times quite heavy. Everything is glazed with about a tenth of an inch, and this is supposed to continue. Hopefully the chit doesn't get to heavy. Loaded the oakleaf with a mix, temps expected to climb near 40.
The temp didn't go any lower than 14 degrees for past 2 days,I thought it was broken or something...lol But noticed on the back of this is a little button you push to show temps below zero....
It got to 11° with a windchill of -1° overnight and a bit of freezing rain/sleet. Pretty happy with the new stove, burning red oak I kept it above 73° inside.
It's -28 C and feels like -36 C with the wind at the moment. Supposed to be -15 C by this evening, and -10 C by midnight. Crossing my fingers that the cold weather has finally broke. Poplar and a random piece of willow in the stove.
Was 39 at midnight 33 at 3 am 30 at 8am 27 now Was up 3/4 of the night dumping thawed out containers at my transfer station and shoveling roofs. Had all the doors open on 2 buildings and snow still wouldn't slide off the metal roofs!!! Snowing now with small load of mishmosh and coal.
Thanks you as well. Yeah very cold but nothing a beard can't help with Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
2 degrees with a real feel of -13 degrees. 73 IAT. Burning some Elm and trying a eco brick. Seems to be doing good. Really puffs up while burning.
It's warmed up to 1°f outside. Real feel temp -15. Burning ironwood, and beech. I'll throw in some shagbark hickory into the mix tonight. STT of 617° it was 740° until I closed the choocher valve a little. Furnace is quiet. Ahhhh..
Ok, 707° STT with air valve( choocher) all the way closed. Beech and ironwood is a great combination. Running the house fan ( HVAC) to ensure no freezing. We only have a t stat in the upstairs hallway. Better safe than sorry.
When you say house fan (HVAC) this is a good idea. I think my oil heater pulls outside air, but if it was running only on fan, i wonder if it would only pull inside warm air to run through the duct work, thus potential helping keep my pipes from freezing as well......
Saskwoodburner what's your local wood source, your pretty far north Saskatchewan not much hard wood grows up there. Funny when I was younger I was offered a job on a ranch an hour north of Saskatoon kinda wish I would of taken.
There's poplar and willow all around me locally. Spruce and pine are probably 10-11 miles away, but even then you need a spot to cut from. Birch and tamarack the same story, getting even further away around 18-20 miles. I just grab wood locally as my truck is 1/3 cord nice load, 1/2 cord pregnant load, or a little more in lengths hanging out the back. The last two are probably not good loads for public roads, and would invite attention! I didn't have a trailer to use until this fall, but the tires are crap anyways. I'd haul from a farmers field a mile away, but never take the trailer on roads as is.
Do you have a magnetic gauge? I ordered 1 should be here tomorrow. 3rd year burning figured I wouldn't have to go outside and make sure I'm not smoking out of the chimney. Thinking about drilling a hole through my double wall pipe to know what's going on there as well. Packers need to get going.
