Current temp - 10 going up to 5°, winds light. House stayed toasty all night. Snow tomorrow up to 6"expected. Burning ash maple and birch in the oakleaf. Stay warm!
-2 deg. here now, kicking ol' Bessie in the butt. The stove not the wife,Plenty of red hot coals that came right to life with a load of Cherry. - 87 below with the wind chill atop of Mt. Washington. That's chilly.
9° and the wind is calm for now. I just went out and pitched some uglies and a few pieces of spalted maple in the gates of hell. That should keep it satisfied for a while. I think I heard the snow globe is going to be shaken up later.
Gotta' heat wave at 15 degrees, heading to mid 20's with crap for weather rolling in (rain, sleet, freezing rain, rain..) it's anybody's guess. The old Hungry Monster out back is doing what I pay it to do,,70 inside temps.
6 at 5 this morning 7 now Very little sun for the last month. Drawback to living along the Great Lakes . Nice to see a bit of blue sky and sun this morning. Will be short lived as that mid west storm is supposed to set in this afternoon. There's about 6 weeks of wood in the furnace room and it's a mishmosh of oak maple cherry and ash and it will get burned in that fashion also along with some coal! My busy season is officially over and it's time to get to work in the shop
At 1030 hrs. it's up to a whopping 4 deg. above zero. we are making ice. The snowmobile trails go across the lakes. No ice, no traveling, which means, no spending money at food places. Our economy depends on the winter. It's all looking good here!
Just got back inside from a little sledding! 14 outside, 69 inside burning a load of red oak shorties. Trying to burn up as many shorts and uglies as possible this winter - up to a couple days ago have only burned silver maple shorts, but switched over to red oak shorts when we hit single digits. This red oak was from a tree service load a couple winters ago - I split about 6 of the largest pieces and was pleased to find out that it is all in the 16% to 18% mc range; wasn't sure it would be ready to go this winter, but glad it is - will switch back to the silver maple as soon as we get back into the teens at night. This stuff is short enough that I can load E/W for 2/3 of the load and the remainder is loaded N/S (or vertical) nearest the Fireview loading door; makes for a pretty full load and have been getting nice long burns with STT up to 650 (higher than normal for a typical load for me).
18 °F burnin a load of Ash, went down to 2 °F last night burned 1 big ash round w shagbark and red oak, 6-7 inches of snow on the way
It's 10 outside with the trend heading south, the basement is being pumped full of heat (84) and it's 73 up here.
23 f with no wind feels like spring haha. Got some ash right now and some locust for overnight, about 6" snow tonight , hope the roads are not icy, gotta break the new truck in, I put 4 steel plates in the bed so got about 550 lbs do you guys think that's enough of
17° and the snow globe has been shook. I pitched a few pieces of beech in the wood goblin to tide it over until it's bed time feeding.
