I just love those barkless pieces of locust...I have a small pile of those covered just outside the door.
Sitting at 31º right now, burning cherry. 14º tonight, have some red oak and ash on deck. Then the bottom drops out high of 10º tomorrow and down from there. We'll be on a steady diet of hickory, oak (red & white) and locust.
I stumbled across some hickory out there today too, but didn't want to drag it in You got some good stuff there, hickory, oak, locust....it don't get much better than that around here.
It looks like this week will be the same, Sugar Maple & Beech in the Liberty and Curran Hardwoods in the Pellet Stove.
Already hit our high of 5*. Supposed to be -12* with a wind chill of -40 tonight. Burning all oak now. Doing an OK job, but it's not hedge. Burning some propane too.
We were above 30 this morning, after I finished my first cup of coffee it had dropped 6 degrees, it's still falling. It's a terrible morning out, snow with the wind is making for lots of accidents. I just heard on the scanner they have a snowplow rollover just off Rte. 68 over near Gasifier. The Beech is burning nice in the Liberty, the Pellet Stove will get it's turn tonight.
Sounds like you are getting hit with what started blowing through here last night. The temps dropped like a rock and the wind was incredible
I bet ours were closer to 45 but I was trying not to exaggerate since I wasn't completely sure ......... The wind was unbelivable! Every wall in the house was creaking and popping and the chimney was literally whistling. Without a key damper it would have been a bear to run the stove.
They sure werent calling for the dumping we got lastnight? But here Me and Emma are taking a break at the house as we were the last of 7 big country driveways i did today Calling for bad temps again tonight so brought in a whack of Locust.
Rte. 68, Troopers said there were so many cars off the road, they didn't know how many there were. And a snow plow down in the ditch. That has to be a pain to get out. Wind and blowing snow was impressive here today. Sun was out and it looked like it was a snow storm. But it wasn't snowing at that time. Just blowing around in the sun.
All that going on an some lady calls 911, she called from Canton saying she needed the ambulance at her place because she's been on a bender since Thursday, they finally went after the second page. Loading up Beech all week long, it's about 5 degrees.
It got to 57 today - really pretty and a lot higher than the forecasted 38, been keeping the stove warm with small loads of gum. The red oak and hickory are waiting for tonight's load and the next few days - not supposed to break freezing till Thursday afternoon with lows 10-12F. We might even get a bit of snow here tomorrow, they are actually predicting more to fall south of here - all the way down to the gulf coast - yeah it's cold for the south
It was up to 37 at around 9 last night, 11 it was down to 19. Made it to 14 today and was 7 when I headed for home. -5 tonight with -30 wind chill. Got a load of cherry and ash burning now. Have a mix sitting by the stove sugar maple, beech, oak, ash, locust, hickory, elm, cherry.....
hmmm, I'm thinkin' here real soon that I'll just stuff two big fat rounds of locust in that Jotul and then eeeease two more of them big fat splits on top of them rounders, run that bad boy up to 600 on the stove top, shut the air off, and go to bed. Currently 16.7 here and to drop to some where near 0.
