LongShot that sounds like a neat place to live! I would need to gravitate to places like that to get away from the heat although we have some pretty hot days here but at least the nights cool down in the summer.

Currently 39.4° only expected to drop a little more. Loaded the oakleaf with a mix of birch, maple, and pine. Winds are gusting a bit.

Drove through Franconia notch this evening and it was windy enough to push the work van around a bit. Be safe all!

That's what I thought yesterday too, let the guys go out for about 24 hrs. Wrong.

I let it go out in the am by not reloading before heading to work.

By the time I got home, I changed the ashes out, and found some coals, and the temp outside started dropping.

We had our stove going all day with a small fire to keep the house warm and the furnace cold.

Rainy and 45 here.. Wind warning, but we haven't seen too much of it here yet. Loaded up with pine to get the coals burned down. Gotta get a stack built right next to the owb for next week so neighbor can feed owb while wife is (hopefully) delivering our second daughter.

    Good to have good neighbors!

congrats on the new addition soon to arrive.

Our good friends have an owb and you made me have a memory. His neighbor feeds his when they are away as well. Several years ago his wife had to go in for open heart surgery unexpectedly and he wasn't in good shape wood wise. I cut a load of dead locust and had it stacked by the stove while he was at the hospital, I stopped to visit his wife during my travels for work, she was still in the hospital but surgery went fine. She said, John said, the wood fairy was at our house, I had not said a word. :)

Good on you, Locust Post! Help offered when it hasn't been asked is always the best kind to give.

And thank you for the congrats - good to have a new stacker on deck.. The current one is a teenager and getting a little crabby about her responsibilities. :)

No fire right now. 52F outside with rain. Wife had a midday fire to take the chill off... was 75F inside and is now down to 72F... a bit higher upstairs as normal.

Likely no fire tonight, but wife will likely make one with our larch tomorrow. The larch has been good for these few weeks where we've only needed one load at a time to take away a little chill. Saving the oak and locust for the 24 hour burning!

The wife wanted to dry some clothes by the fire so I started a small cherry fire with five splits, we're at 45 trending up.

It's raining out so it's a damp one.
