Planning on tonight being the last fire of the season. Made some smaller splits and burning it hot to clean up the ugly stuff inside the stove before shutting down for the season.
Reminds me of back in the day I was belly up to a sassparilly at the watering hole on the other side of the ridge and a young buck was jackin wit me. It was winter time and I lost all ability to tolerate this amateur bench warmer. I politely axed if he would STFU and if'n he didn't I was about to take him outside and make a yellow snow angel out of him! He LOL'd and then shut up. Yes ,,,,, I'm a wood hater right now!!!! Low forecast for last nite was SUPPOSED to be 43,,,,, we got a hard frost. I was planting cukes in one of my hothouse beds last nite and the moon was coming up full. Glad I lowered the lids before the sunset to give them buggers a little bedtime warm up. NO fire,,,, all pane !
Wow I havent checked this thread since April 28. Sorry I havent been following your pain/joy this last month or so. Ive been burning on and off since the end of April but mostly off as weve had some amazing hot weather in the BC Rockies. We are now in the middle of a low pressure system which is great for our parched forests. Today got up to 9 c and right now its 7 c and everything outside is wet (except my stacks). I worked today till 5 and came home and made a fire. Right now I have 3 largish splits in the stove, 2 are doug fir and one is sub alpine fir. Its raining good outside which is a blessing. Hopefully Fort Mac is getting a good amount as well. I was hoping to go pike fishing this weekend with my son but Ill put that off until the crummy weather passes. Looks like Ill be burning for the next 3 or 4 days which is alright by me since I had a bit of a break this last month.
50º outside and it has been dreary and rainy all day. I opened the pool today and tonight I have a fire going in the stove. May well be the latest fire I have had or at least that I recall, but I got wood & I was cold.
Am I the only one who sees not so friendly faces in some fires? I'm going to hide now... And our weather is great, I think I had 6 fires in the last 30-40 days. Right now it's 20 C (70 -ish F). It's been an over all nice year.
Im burning a half load of larch right now. Will you get any of this low pressure? Looks like we are only going to get up to 5-8 c tomorrow with 30 mm of rain. Lots of cool weather this week coming up which I guess is good. No forest fire danger around here!, at least in the near future.
I don't even know what to think about the weather around here this year any more lol. Quite often there's rain in the forecast, and it doesn't amount to anything. It was so dry here, the burning bans went on, then it rained off and on for three days, bans came off. Fast forward 10 days or so, and the fire bans are back on. Warm temps to boot. It's 17 C at 9 AM. We've had so little rain, I actually want it to rain.
We had frost last night and it should get to 61°f today. We've had quite a bit of wind this last week with wind speeds up to 45 mph. The week before last it was up to 85°f. The forecast for the week is calling for thunder storms and cool temperatures.... Two weeks from now we'll be complaining about the heat... It's typical weather for the high desert.
I hope you get it! Weve been all over the map here as well and very dry so Im liking this cool weather. Im kinda wishing the half load of larch was a full load last night since its so damp and cool out. 5c and rain, rain, and more rain. I posted a few pics in amateur photography that shows a few mountains. Those pictures should be showing lots of snow up there for this time of year. Some well placed low pressure systems will help so we will see.
I gave away and antique wardrobe, the grain on both doors mirrored eachother, and it was a distinct image a huge creepy thing, part gorilla part human, and unfriendly looking.
We have hit a high of 44f/7c today with lots of rain so I think its time to get the stove going so I can exchange my sweat shirt and wet jeans for shorts and a t shirt. Ive been out puttering in the garage and the yard in the rain and have a chill. I did have a nice walk in the woods with Tundra looking at trees a bit earlier on. It was chilly and wet but a walk in the woods in any weather is calming to my soul.
Spent the weekend at the cottage without lighting a fire. Not even a little one. Well, there were two evenings of fires in the fire pit watching the moon and catching fish, but nothing for a fire inside the cottage! Even felt like summer. (Nice that it came on a weekend this year) Little black swarming gnats are now little black swarming gnats that bite! They should be just about done now.
