We've been in this 35-55 range for 3-4 weeks and overcast. BLAHHHHH! Our Feb/March weather was awesome for our area. Lots of sunny days and little to no snow. Last 3-4 weeks BLAHHHHHHHHHH! Its spring for cryin out loud !!!!!!!!! Pretty sure Ive done more restarts from cold this year than ever. Big load of coal and a stick of oak still percolating from last nite.
The house finally dropped below 65°, so I lit a small fire of what locust was left in the wood room. The dog gave me a look like, "it's about time, boss"!!!
Yup we were out of wood on wood deck.. but hey it the 4th of May were good! Wrong! it's 42 outside it's 64 inside I get home wife says it's cold it's damp! Do you just want to turn up oil heat? no I want to be warm! so I go get 2 bucket of wood load on deck and... I did such a good job she napping on the couch!
No fire last night but we had a small fire this morning, I did manage to chip up some of the Pine branches before the rain came in.
It was 65 in the house this morning. Quick start fire of maple and hickory blocks (6-8 inch diameter), to warm up the place. I must say it is nice not maintaining a 24 hour fire.
We are heading to 39 so we'll have a nice fire with Cherry and one round of Ironwood, I think we have four rounds of Ironwood left from all the dead stuff I cut late summer.
Blasphemy!! I recommend a 1 week ban from the forum as punishment for such an atrocity. It's only going down to around 50F tonight but with several days of rain/drizzle, it's starting to feel a little clammy in here. I started another fire today to take the dampness out of the air. Ash and cherry.
Agree with you, I must. Very learned you are young Jedi. I'm so far behind for next year's firewood supply I need to punish myself! I have a three day weekend coming up. So...... I'll negotiate with you. I will bring at least 10 face cord more of firewood, bucked up, back to my processing area before I show my face here again. With pictures included! Starting.....now!
Small oak fire tonight. Even though mid 40°F outside, mid 60s inside. We've had rain for days now, sometimes heavy, other times misty. Pushing out the dampness is a good thing.
Dropped to 26 overnight. Haven't had a fire in the basement for about a week now. Temp in basement is holding at 60.
It's funny how fast you adapt to temperatures in the house. All winter I would keep it 68-72 in the house. We have had tons of rain here but the outside temps have been back in forth from 60-low 70's. House dips down to 60-62 at night but havent had a fire in 3 weeks or so.
48 Doesn't look like much under 40 nites here for the next 10 days. Fat lady just walked on stage. Pane in the house.
low this morning of 38 high expected of 66.. Ideal steek still kept living room and most of hose at 68.. I love soapstone fire was last built Wednesday at 3 pm... Living room is 20 by 20.. front wall 3 ... 3 foot by 7 foot glass panes.. 2 ..4 by 5 windows and exterior doors.. before adding of Woodstock coldest room in house never got used 6 months of winter... now everyone favorite
Been chunking some 1/2 worthless maple into the owb to knock the cool nite time temps back. The wood was full of ants, it was free, it was delivered and the wimmins are not burning any L.P.
