No idea why I don't get notifications anymore but I'm not reading the next 10 pages or so so hopefully I'm back in now!
Now I am wondering if different areas around here are going to see flooding/ice dam problems. What do you think Woodlands? With the weather this weekend we will see some serious melting. Suppose to be high of 38 Fri., 45 or higher Sat. with rain, high of 38 or more on Sun., and then 45 again on Monday. I am all for getting rid of this ice, but hope it doesn't cause too many problems.
Yes, certain areas will, I'm wondering if Norfolk by the bridge will be one. It's already started in this area. http://mpcourier.com/article/20140109/DCO/701099755
We have had two or three spells this season where in a 7 day stretch I went through 1/2 of a cord of wood. Or a little better than that! That was when we had 4-5 days straight with it going down to -10 to -15 at night and the wind was blowing off and on throughout the day and night on several of those days.
I will be sure I have as much or more wood for 2014/15 as I did for this year! I always make sure I have more than I need for Oct. 1 thru May 1.
We switched over to burning Cherry, boy do I miss burning the Sugar Maple & Beech but we'll save it for the colder temps coming in at the end of next week. Another cold snap, not like the last one.
65f here burning a bit of oak and elm. Were currently under a tornado watch!!! First part of the week its 10f and this mourn its 60f with a tornado warning???
I was talking to a guy who drives tractor trailer hauling fuel. We talked about all the melting and potential for ice dams/flooding. He said there was a bridge south of Watertown on 81 southbound that the ice was already getting up close to and they could have a problem there. I think he was talking about Adams Center area. That was Thursday. This morning, listening to the radio, they said 81 south bound lanes were closed south of Watertown due to Ice and flooding problems.
I hope we get a little more, get rid of this ice! It's everywhere! I went through 6 25lb. Bags of salt the other day. Had to, dangerous for walking or driving on. The old rock salt makes a world of difference.
It rained pretty good today after I came in from cutting, it's about 45 here. It looks like we'll get rid of some of the ice but not all, it's a freakin mess outside. Once it freezes again I'll have some nice tracks to run on in the woods so I can check out what I think is a downed Maple, Sugar I hope. I see North Carolina had some bad winds. http://www.wral.com/
Suppose to be 45 on Monday again. Maybe, just maybe. The parking area, camp road, sidewalks, etc. will be clear of ice by the end of Monday.
In the 50's yesterday and now in the high 30s. Let the stove go cold long enough to run a brush down the chimney for the first time this year. Man do I love this cat stove. Got about 1/8 of a cup and the screen at the top barely had anything on it. Fires back up with a little maple and walnut.
