Right now it's -9 with a wind chill of -33. I'm getting tired of this. Everything is closed, including me! How do areas that live with this a lot survive? What happened here was we got a lot of snow, like 12". The road crews went out and cleared it out, I thought all is good. The wind kicked up so the road crews are keeping at it but here 's the kicker, everything under the snow has turned to ice. So the county re-issues a Level 3 meaning no travel or a ticket. If you get in an accident with your car if you do go out they say your not covered. Even the pizza shops are closed.
11:15AM it has warmed to 8'F from the 4' it was at 6:00AM. Burning a mix of oak, ash and beech. I'm not fussy, it's all burning well and the Fv is having no trouble keeping it up.
This is our second stretch of this chit, W/C readings for Tues.,Wed. are -21 an on Wed. night we get our warmup, -8. The end is near for us, sooner for you, until Mother Nature comes at us again on the east coast at the beginning of February, can you say nor'easter!
Nor'easter, sounds like an anti-religious thing to me. Up where you are Woods, do you get effected by those? Here in Ohio those are nothing more than a news story, a bad news story. I'm just glad I don't live at the other end of the lake, I heard they had areas that got up to 5' of snow from this.
Nothing yet this winter, but we can get a chit load of snow from them. I'll ask the weather gods if they'll keep it on the coast so Ray can get more snow. The Tug Hill area just south of Watertown is getting nailed, the sleds will be in that area this weekend.
Any plumbers are well man on here see my thread Water pump not pumping, Not sure what to do next http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...mp-not-pumping-not-sure-what-to-do-next.2079/
Just burning down some coals, Sugar Maple & Beech again tonight with the pellet stove set on auto @ 75. Will have another cold night -21 to -23, both are windchill readings. The wind was brutal today, had to be worse at Gasifiers house.
Bad news... my moms well froze. Ruined the pressure tank and busted a pipe. Good news it's over here got up to 37 today low is supposed to be in the low 20s.
didn't think I'd be into this cord until February There's some grey birch in that first row of splits and it burns pretty darn nice and hot I've been leaving it for the woodpeckers with some white birch growing on the side of a hill. I'm gonna have to go back and harvest that for me. Pioneer species it has been withering as the white pine, poplar and a few oaks grow faster and block the light. They haven't gotten very big but they don't seem to need splitting to season or not rot.
Was 0 in the middle of the night last night. The wind finally died though. The warm up coming this weekend is highly anticipated and will be enjoyed! The Wood Gun has been gobbling the wood up in this cold and wind.
It's 12.4 back in the woods, we're still burning some Sugar Maple but we'll give the pellet stove a break until the next Bogydave Vortex comes down.
What I found strange is that usually a southwest wind is warmer than a northwest wind around here, but with the circulation of this arctic system the southwest wind was biting cold today. Relief is on the way.
Down to 10 already and some wind is back, biting is a good discription of the winds we have been having. Especially when the temp is anything below 10 deg. I'm missing working outside. No fun and uncomfortable when the wind is blowing 15+ mph at those temps. Waiting for it to break this weekend. If I can't get into woods because of ice I will walk in and fell some trees, lim it, block it, and pile it and take it out as soon as I can.
The Arctic Vortex should be gone in a day or two. Oh yeah, it's 31 F. here tonight, so far. I'm digging it!
I'm barely putting any wood into the stove compared to that negative degree weather. What a nice break
It was 12 degrees this morning so I ran the pellet stove last night. (12.4 last night) Friday we'll be pushing in more Cherry, we would like to get through the rest of January burning Cherry during the day and if need be, Sugar Maple or Beech at night if needed.
Suppose to be warming up here, but it's not acting like it. 18 degrees loaded up with oak & locust... So much easier to keep up at these temps
