Did a chimney inspection myself one week ago. Opened the cleanout of the masonry portion and pulled out all that stuff. About 1/3 of it was debri including a large chuck of block that had fallen into the flue when it was repaired a couple years back. Guess the "contractor" failed to mention that when he was paid...Just large enough to come out of the chimney cleanout door. Any larger and it would have had to been busted to fit through it. But only aobut2" worth of soot/ashes in a 5 gallon bucket. The single wall pipe will hold until the end of the season for it's dusting!
We had over two feet of snow the other day. Plowed with a front loader, took over an hour, and I have some massive snowbanks now. Artan is having trouble getting off the road. Not as warm over the weekend as it was supposed to be. but cold north wind late afternoon, and the melt has frozen, so slippery walking tomorrow. We are in for a cold ten days. significantly below normal, EXCEPT Wednesday/Thursday, when we are due to get another big precip event...so far predicted Ottawa snow, Kingston rain, so we are in between...but it's still a bit off and who knows? The call, is for at least 15 cm in the area that does get snow.... This is the only real snow we have had on the ground all winter. Glad to have the moisture...a safeguard if we have a dry Spring or Summer.
We are at 8 here this morning and a mix of Ash and Pine is heating the boiler back up. It ran out of wood before I got out of bed this morning and it went down to 150. But the big buffer tank kept the oil from coming on.
What a night of not sleep. Someone left the T-stat just a touch high. It was set at 69-ish and that extra warmth made all the difference for a good nights sleep! Covers on covers off all night. Thought I was getting sick again. Got a little cooler that I expected overnight. 16 now but headed above 30 for today and tomorrow. Weekend will be back down to the singles digits.
Fed the jotul oak, maple, and hickory this morning. Temps were hovering around freezing and keeping in the low 40's today. Rain on and off over the next 3 days.
18 when I got up 26 now Some oak and beech got things up to temp. Been loading smaller loads at night due to higher forecast temps, ,,, then it drops 10-15 degrees colder than the dimwits forecast. Makes for cooler mornings in house.
14 here with a feels like 8. Suppose to go down to 1 tonight. Pine and a big split of Elm currently roasting in the boiler.

Hastings had run out when I got home. Refilled and refired, finished cleaning the princess and burning a mix of good oak and ash, and junk wood to keep the chill off of Madame dispatcher as she naps before going in on midnights. 36 f and calm here in Possum Hollow.
