We're at 20 degrees tonight so we have the Liberty filled with Sugar Maple. It looks like the start of our cold snap comes in tomorrow night with Friday and Saturday being the coldest, Friday -10/realfeel -21 and Saturday -17/realfeel -34. We'll start burning Ironwood tomorrow afternoon with the pellet stove running at night with the wood stove.
Brought some hickory, sugar maple , ash, white n red oak in, for low temps coming, 25°F right now burnin ash n elm
My sister called ...her son in NC has EXACTLY the same temps and snow conditions as I have in Southern Ontario. 10* out. Was warmer today that yesterday (no North wind), and tomorrow isn't supposed to be too bad, but Thursday looks to be cold. We had snow off and on most of the day, but only about an inch accumulation. That makes about 9 inches for the winter so far...... I've had large rounds of ironwood sitting at the bottom of one of my indoor wood racks all season...like Woodlands, I expect to be burning that , mixed with my maple, beech, ironwood, hickory and ash splits, starting Thursday. The way the winter was going I had thought there was a possibility the rounds might still be there next year. I l,ove the aroma of sugar maple burning...the fragrance is like vanilla to me. Just looked out the window to see we have had a bit more snow, but only another 1/2 inch or so.
This is for Tuesday the 16, the ice amount usually changes to almost nothing, we'll see. It's from AccuWeather for my area. recipitation: 1.11 in Rain: 0 in Snow: 3.5 in Ice: 0.94 in
6 this am, going to 11, then down to -1 overnight. 68 in the house at 8am. 4 small-medium Oak splits in the stove to help burn things down a bit. I'll be burning down coals all day so I can pull ashes before the night load. The DV will probably get used tonight, and the next few nights as well.
Yes, February. This is the forecast for north of us on the same day. recipitation: 1.11 in Rain: 0 in Snow: 8.2 in Ice: 0.65 in
18 Maybe 2" of fresh white overnite. Radar is showing some heavy lake bands about 30 mile N of us. This winter has been great. Frozen ground and little to no snow. A dream to work outside in. Oak and coal pumpin the heat out.
i am just curious, do people swarm the grocery store when there is a prediction like this as they do here in ohio?
They don't here. Prolly cuz most are used to ice and big snow storms. A good 3'er here dosen't make to many people blink. It just slows the daily process.
It was -1 temp this morning with (yup, you guessed it) fresh snow. Must've got 5" more overnight. And then a couple more throughout the day today. People seem kinda "edgy" lately!
Yesterday and today we have had a total of about three inches of snow. Around noon for about two hours it was above freezing, but snowing, and the snow melted as it hit the steps. Kept it well cleared because I didn't want to deal with ice once it froze again, which happened at about three. Then we have the most beautiful snow...no wind at all, flakes, ranging from tiny to quite large, spaced a few inches apart, gently falling, yet the snowfall heavy enough to turn the air white. Storybook beautiful. Only lasted a few minutes. I was fortunate to be walking with Artan at the time. Just came back from our after dinner walk. It is snowing again, lightly, and is still quite mild out. I know it won't last, but today was milder than predicted, so I am hopeful that tomorrow will be also. Even a few degrees makes a difference, given the temps predicted.....
