currently 12 degrees with an expected high of mid 30's. tomorrow expecting a high in the 40's. we will see a lot of melting going on tomorrow! i will bring some more wood in after the now melts as we have burned a good bit during the last few days. i hope all of you with big snowfall get through the melt off without too much flooding.
We were 24 this mourning. Took hours for the locust splits to get going last night when they finally did the stove was really heating the house even though it was fighting back against a cool house.
Yup we did. My dad and I each caught one with a few perch. Was windy as heck, could barely keep the portable shack in place.
hey Clemsonfor, i was just thinkin', i have increased the load carrying ability of several pick ups buy adding a leaf or two to your existing leaf pack. i know the rear end, axle bearings, brakes etc aren't upgraded by doing this. the pic in your avatar says you ask alot of them already. 1 leaf or two is plenty to stop it from squatting so quickly. i had an"85 short bed ranger, mine was a 2.8 5spd. This is still about firewood, right?
Yea I have toyed with the add a leaf. I was thinking it had one but I think bits just the overload spring or whatever on bottom I also thought of air shocks
I was also talking about my k10 previously. I have that 90 ranger too. It squats bad. Not as bad as ling beds though.
i used a full size rear leaf from a late 70s f150, there are different width springs but some are the same width as yours. you loosen the u bolts over the axle and slide the leaf in. there are clamps that hold the pack together that you need to cut off and use replacement ones from NAPA. they can be added in no time and stiffen it up alot. I saw the pics of your full size truck also. I like the look of a short 4wd.
9 Coak a Coala Not a snow flake in prolly 72 hours. Was sunny and blue sky here yesterday. Could see the cloud bank edge of that storm far off to the S all day.
Dam straight. I had an older model, black F-150 that had a cracked leafspring on one side. I had my brother's garage replace all the leafs with a set of used F-250 from Eisse Brothers down by Watertown, N.Y. Certainly beefed it up for the hauling of firewood and whatever!
It's 21 tonight, after supper I threw a few splits on some coals which will take us to our overnight burn.
that was actually the first spring swap i did, a 1972 heavy gvw f250 stack under a short box '72 f100. you could not squat the truck unless you hauled lead i guess. it hauled 2 layers of creek rock, my quad on top, and 4 semi adults ...... then i replaced the rear axle bearings. not a hard job just shows the trucks real limitations. this truck was my first firewood hauler in about '88.
got up to 32º and I let the stove burn down to almost needing to relight, actually I did throw a couple pieces of kindling in on the coals at 6:45 and now have some cherry burning.
it got well into the 3os and we started the melt freeze cycle as it has now dropped on it's way to the 20s. still burning maple splits and gave the pellet stove the night off, not sure but i think the stove has a date with the dryer.
I've been away from the computer this winter.... Very mild winter. total of about 8 inches of snow, about two weeks of typical winter temps, and now it looks to be warming going forward towards Spring.. There has been a lot of snow a hundred miles north of here, but everything (temp and snow) has missed us...we've been in a mild pocket. Even missing the lake effect snow. And the forecast is for rain on Tuesday, so we will likely lose the little snow we do have on the ground. The Rideau is finally frozen (Skate the Lake this past weekend), but it is clear blue and looks open. Flat and gorgeous. The sun reflects off it, the moon reflects off it, sunset, trees, etc. Simply beautiful. One of those infrequent, special years when you can watch the fish swimming under the ice. Have used under a cord so far.....
