I did that the other night, when I couldn't get away from work... But hopefully that will be its last time needed this year.

Didn't get as cold as they thought so no hot water fun :( Suppose to get up to 7 below. Nice and warm in here thanks to some ash and elm.

    Take that Jack Frost!

    5 this morning.
Coals forward (a lot of 'em) and 2 biggish chunks of Ash with a couple smaller Ash, and we had light off within seconds.
Still waiting for the temp to come up from 64 in here. I slept in 'til 8 again.:)

-16°:bug:, still 69° in the house when I woke up this morning at 5:30! No furnace running was a great sound!:dex: I finally after a year and a half of burning figured out a fan arrangement to get the max amount of hot air up the stairs in these frigid temps!

Headed for a whopping -6°ish for the high. We'll be staying inside:coffee::coffee: (coffee for us and hot cocoa for the kids)

here in sw ohio we are slowly dropping from yesterdays high to a big drop this evening down to 7 degrees monday morning when i have to go to work. blah, blah, blah. maybe it could snow some too, and make the roads slick.....(said no one ever)! small fire now and will "kick it up a notch" later today. prolly burn a bag of pellets also. will work in shop today, i heat it with electric so i don't any worry of a fume explosion. and it is clean, no ash or dust. when we built the garage i insulated r13 with additional dead air space in the walls and r30 in the ceiling. heats quickly and not terribly expensive.

-18 here and burning a mixture of oak and maple. The stove just can't quite maintain a comfortable temperature in the house without the furnace when it gets this cold. It was definitely brisk bringing wood up to the house this morning. 20160117_074812.jpg

23 when I woke up. 64 inside . Wood furnace was out ,,, propain was on,,,,started coffee and threw a heavy comforter on the bed and went back to sleep.
Got back up around 8 and lit off a barnburner with some small oak, cherry and a pice of black walnut:jaw:(don't see that around here much) to get temps up quick. Also figured the chimney could use a good high temp blowout.

Yes, there's a farmer who has at least a dozen restored AC's. Every year he takes them to the fair to display. He has all sorts of help to drive them the 10 miles into town.

    Any pictures of your's?

Me...I'm just slaving away at work. I am slowly putting together a small shed for storing equipment and such. Nothing as challenging as working on a tractor. :)

2 year old White Oak,few pieces of Black Cherry scrap from milling on top middle of pic near the swing frame.

Makes the difference, but its still burning faster than usual cause of the extreme cold/wind.

Hey woodcutter! Did you have wind on top of that -18? Hope not.
99lbs had to go to Duluth yesterday and said it was miserable there.

All y'all need to fill your oil tanks now!! Fuel is cheap. Had a logger tell me he just bought some off road for $1.25 last week!! I need to fill a barrel up and dump in the tank at the farm at that price

I think thats true, but a bit colder for me. Anything after -20 or so. Like you say, it's all the same at that point.

However, the wind picked up again here! But we have warmed up to -24 wind chill now. Gonna put on short sleeves if this trend continues.

Wish I was there to enjoy those cinnamon rolls with you!
I tried making some of the store brand in a cardboard tube yesterday (thanks to your pic this past week) and did not care for them at all. Should've know better!
I think there were 8 in the tube. 99lbs was gone for the day and I ate all of them except one. She found it when she came home that evening and I told her that they were no good. The sheer absence of 7 of them made her wonder if I was fibbing or not.
