Its a wood stove insert. It can be set up as a free stander or insert. But yes I live in the south. But the no insulation in the home extremidies makes it hard to keep up. At 20F I can barely keep up but loads are closer to 7-8 hours and load back on huge coal beds. The teens at night esp several in a row its just cold in them I can't really keep up.

If I was insulated it would be no problem. The stove room and one other room are only ones with wall insulation. But all has R19 attic.

i guess that also explains the "no insulation in most of the house".

that is a nice looking fire in a good looking insert.too bad about the insulation issue you have. we are real well insulated and positioned good with trees to act as a wind break. with temps going down this weekend i will need to keep as many btus in as i can. here is a pic of my king insert and best dog scooby. That was a fresh reload is why the flames were so big. Its a Catalytic stove and I had not thrown the bypass closed yet.

20 out now. I loaded 2 splits of sugar maple on a nice bed of shag and elm coals.

26 here, 76 in the house! Tried turning up the air from 1.1 to 1.25 since about 10 am to see what the impact would be ... who would have guessed my stove would produce more heat? . Just trying to figure out what I might need to run it at once the real cold gets here. Burning 3 black cherry splits. Getting just a bit too hot for me, may wait until back down below 73 to add any more.

Its 51 outside. Stove was just coals and 76 in stove room. Going to 30 in the mourn so I removed some ashes and threw three oak splits on to warm the house back up to keep ahead. Hard to play catch up easier to heat when your hotter than you want to be and let the outside temp lower the inside as it cools off

Still below zero and it has begun to snow again.

Went out to feed the OWB and the snow is squeaking with every footstep!

Why the heck is it still so warm at your place? Thought for sure it'd be cold there too. You must be current on your taxes?

We're suppose to drop to 13 tonight and the colder weather should move in on Monday for a week.

Yeah it's cold when it starts squeaking. I'm not there yet, thank goodness. About 20f not accounting for wind-chill. I'm good with that.
Burning 2 Aspen splits on top of a big pile of Ash/Mulberry coals. House hasn't been this warm all day, 70+ now.
For me, Ash and Mulberry are shoulder season woods. The coaling has been a big let-down for me.

There are nights I'm sure ours would come on too if I let it.

I flipped the breaker and only flip it back if we'll be gone for more than 24 hours.
