Was another nice -20 with the wind this morning. Supposed to warm up on the positive side for a couple days, then Sunday, cold again.

And snow every one of those days, also.

Forecast low changed from 12 to 10, and we're at 11 right now.
House is still at 70, with a single small split of Oak on the coals I'm trying to burn down before the night load. I may have to pull some of those first, though.
Debating whether to turn on the DV tonight.

I think everyone in Iowa were glad the President gave his state union address...it gave us a break from all the b.s. they say. :)

My stove pipe goes up through a crawl space type shallow pitched roof over the stove. Any amount of snow sitting on the roof will melt from the heat of the metal chimney in that small space. That melting always freezes when it hits the eaves, walla! Ice dam.:(:headbang:So I roof rake even for a couple of inches to keep it clear, and no dams. If i get a couple of feet on the roof and didn't rake, I'd have water POURING through the roof. Not fun, no sir.:hair:

It's 12 out and it's trending up, I loaded up the Liberty with 5 rounds of Ironwood on the bottom and another 5 splits of Beech on top, that combo throws some crazy azz heat.

It does, that's why I never let ice dams get started. I clean that section of roof right away. We have had to get to get up and shovel other sections when it get 3 or 4 feet deep and rain is forecast every now and then. It is what it is, keeps me young.:loco:

Ive seen the electrical heat wire and thought that looked like a good idea. Not sure how well it works though. Im getting a new roof next year so hopefully my spring ice damming problems will go away.

Make sure you use the ice barrier as an underlayment. That stuff is the bomb!

When I have to redo my roof, and it's going to need a tearoff when it does, the ice barrier membrane will go down in all the key areas.

Those have their own issues though. Namely sliding snow and ice.

Just remember, it's not the roof causing the problem. Putting on a new roof won't fix ice dams.
Ask my SisIL about snow sliding off a metal roof...........scares the crap outta her.

What about those little metal things they out on them to catch the snow/ice?

They out them non all the new army buildings on the bases....even here in SC where there is almost NEVER an accumulation so to stop it.
