Hmmm, maybe something like a BK. Yeah, that's the ticket. S&W, I'm just a little frustrated right now with the old stove. It's a great heater for it's time, but just doesn't compare to a newer stove. Especially a BK of any kind. Did I read between the lines correctly? Ok, done whining .......for a minute.
Been burning pear and maple alittle heavier with temps at night in the 20's and daytime highs in the 40's
About 26 or so here this morning at 5:30. The Wood Gun boiler is eating up some Ash and a little Maple.
28 this morning. Still working through my boxelder and aspen but I throw some ash on before leaving for the day. Have to keep our dogs warm while we are away you know!
It was cold here yesterday for this time of year. High in the mid 40's, low in the mid 20's. Only had the Defiant running.
Right now, I'm not burning. It's 50 right now. 60 in the house. A little too cold in here, but I'll probably just hold off until 5pm. I want to check on ash pan gasket on the Defiant. I think I have an air leak somewhere.
Great idea! Maybe it could use a fuel manufactured by large corporations that you buy in bags at retail outlets. That way it would stimulate the economy more.
31 here, house is 71 Forecast is for Winter to start tonight, whole week of 20° at night. Precip, 20% chance.
Nailed it. Doing 24 hour burn cycles of crap that wasnt worth stacking. Given the forecast i might get away with that for at least another week.
Okay. I think this is the coldest yet here. Looks like 15. My boiler is cranking with the White Ash. What do you guys have? What ya burnin?
Mid teens yesterday morning, mid 20s today. Should be done with the Fall junk burn by Thanksgiving and then on to the dry straight non-primo stuff until January. Colder and snow pretty consistent in the 7 day...perfect time to move to better fuel from under a roof.
Still pretty mild here...supposed to cool down this weekend but still not cold (30's High / 20's Low). Burning hedge and black locust from here on out. Might get into some oak this spring when things warm up.
Thankfully living between 2 of the Great Lakes with 2 others very close makes the weather sort of moderate so most times we miss the super cold. But even today it got into the high 40's. Tomorrow 40. Next day, 31, then 26, etc. These are the highs. The lowest forecast is 18. We are still burning ash and will be for many years yet. I do have a few soft maple in the stack too but mostly white ash that was cut during the winter of 2008-2009.
It's definitely not shoulder season anymore with 20s at nights and 40s during the day, but at least it's sunny and clear. Been using more ash with a few oak thrown in here and there.
It's just starting to drop off on temperatures. It's 38 feels like 32, and it continues to drop. I'm thinking my hedge will be moving inside when I get home.
It's been hanging in the 40's during the day and low 30's at night. This weekend it's predicted to dip. low 30's and mid teens at night. I have been burning mostly cherry and american elm. Put a moisture meter to the inside of the cherry the other night for the heck of it. 10%.
Dennis. I don't know if you use a moisture meter. For some reason I seem to remember you don't. I know you don't need one. But I am curious what the moisture content is of Ash that has been drying since 2008-9. Do you know anyone close you could borrow one from and see?
