Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

I think last year there were six bags in the back, I always start with four and then add some if needed, four does make a difference.

There are times when I plow into the woods off the driveway, the extra weight really helps.

 

Just seems like 320lbs would not make that much difference inna big truck. I would think you would need 500-800#s before it started to hook up really well

 

One year I put a bunch of small diameter logs in the back of one of my trucks that was so lite in the back. I'm not sure exactly, but probably had 600 lbs back there. What a difference. Trying to remember what truck that was. I think it was the 3/4 ton Jeep J-20 I use to own. That thing could push some snow.

 

We won't get crap tonight for snow, just the freezing drizzle, the sleds will have to wait.

 

Yesterday, the La Crosse area got between 8 and 10 inches of snow. Burning a bit of elm.

 

43 outside, 75 inside, didn't load the stove this morning, just fired back up at about 6:30 with a few chunks of elm. Supposed to go down to 32 tonight. Little bit colder air supposed to arrive this weekend.

 

It was 25 this morning, the temp is 34 degrees at the moment. We had another Cherry fire in the Liberty this morning.

We'll push in some Sugar Maple & Beech later today or tomorrow, we'll save the rest of the Cherry for March & April.

 

Added some insulation to the attic this fall and really making a difference. 28 degrees now. Had a small fire this morning. Will light up again in about an hour, which should give me coals in the morning. Some cold coming in. Supposed to get down to 6 F tomorrow night. I'm thinking elm and birch for tonight.

 

It is supposed to get into the mid teens overnight. Think I'll build a fire in the basement in the morning and brew a pot of stove top coffee for myself! Anyone else is welcome, of course!

 

Down to low teens tonight with high of 16 predicted for tomorrow. Load up the usual red oak and watch my predictable 600 stt and 350 surface flue temp keep the house a cozy 73ish and the furnace sleeping! Oh and keep the garage door cracked a bit and the garage at 56ish for a warm truck in the morning! Could I run my stove a little cooler? Suuure, but then I'm forcing reloads on too many coals before heading to work and the garage will get too cool and the heater will run.

Last night, she got home from playing cards and left her 9X8 garage door open all night! Attached garage, so it is a little concerning....no skunks this time of year though.

 

The last I looked it was 34 out, more Cherry going in the Liberty.

 

May drop below zero tonight, single digits tomorrow. Might need a log or two or 20 of elm, apple,mulberry tonight.

About 5 days of shoulder wood left. More in a heaphausen uncovered down back. It will stay there till its time to stack some up next August.
Will fire the Woodchuck once its gone and give the TR18 a break. No more carrying shoulder wood in for the 18 as the furnace room is stacked to the ceiling.
About 6 weeks worth before a refill which is less than 8' away. Time to hunker down.

 

I meant the door into the garage from the house. To let the extra heat into there instead of out the window. I think thats why winter temps have stayed so warm! Everyone anxious to run their stoves and over heating their houses and letting it out the windows!

Yeah, I knew that. Just thought it was almost the kinda the same thing that happened unintentionally here!

 

Going to Cascade ski area in Portage Wisconsin on Saturday. Should be pleasantly cold. They have an outdoor fire pit where they burn unseasoned smokey wood. I would love to be in charge of that. I'd have all the season's wood split by June. I bet they are splitting weeks before burning. Pathetic. They have endless trees on hand.
