17f right now and finishing up some coals of lodgepole and doug fir before the larch and a bit of birch make it into the stove for my overnight burn.
Honey suckle eh? Ive never heard of that being burned. Can you get any size to the wood? If you have any pics of some splits Id be keen to see it.
It'll be upper 30's with rain (100%) today. Light winds. Then right around 30 for the next three days. 36 now.
I helped clear an old hedge of it out. The biggest was about 5" diameter so I didn't split it. Not even sure it would split with the way it grows.
Honey suckle or honey locust One is a tree and one is a vine...the vine I have never seen bigger than your pointer finger really...not many BTUs to it
We had 44 this morning over coffee, I did touch off a fire in the Liberty so the boss could dry some laundry.
Its 66 now. Thunderstorms this mourning . Had about 5 inches in last 48 hrs. Were forecasted to be 80F christmas day! Things are getting weird???
There is a shrubby tree that is also called honeysuckle. I'm not sure if they share a common name or if the tree/shrub and vine species are related.
Raining here. 36 right now with rain. Its overcast and raining. Tonight it drops below 32 and will freeze everything that is wet, but right now its raining. Still. What a mess.
Honey suckle. They were up to 15' tall...wind break probably planted 40 years or more ago. Very dense even after seasoning.
Still we can't be talking about the same thing!! Honey suckle here in the east is a vine. Usually the mixed of a spaghetti noodle!
We've got invasive honey suckle which gets pretty big, for a shrub/ viney sorta thing, but you'd have to be desperate to bother with it for firewood. Maybe the stuff you have is different than what I'm talking about? We've also got a straight up honeysuckle vine that we bout from the nursery, while it's related to the wild invasive stuff, it stays really thin. The stuff that's 7 yrs old or so at the base is maybe a half inch in diameter.
I was desperate....nothing but wet cottonwood the year before so whatever would burn I cut. I will snap a picture of the few pieces I still have.
Have you ever heard of Matrimony vine planted for windbreaks for farming? From 50-150 years ago in Colorado? (goji)
clemsonfor look up Bush Honeysuckle (Amur honeysuckle). Invasive species introduced in Iowa for wind breaks.
