The house is still holding at 70 without a fire today so we'll go without one tonight. Looking at the temps for the rest of December for our area, we'll burn Cherry for the rest of the month.
I didn't reload the stove this am before I left for work. I got home, cleaned the glass, and there was still heat and some coals going in the quadrafire. Here's my forecast, but it's supposed to drop temps big time on Monday. I've got pine and box elder going tonight. 47 mph gusts though
Been 22 hours since my last fire, 55 right now but the house dropped down to 66 so I had to put in some bits and pieces of walnut
Well !! The walnut pieces are burning real nice, I guess I put a little too many in, stove top hit 715 blower is on high
55 degrees out tonight...not gonna get below 33 degrees for the next 10 days. My house will stay good with a fire built in the insert late in the evening before bed.
I decided to check our basement temp (we heat from the basement), it was down to 65 so I started a fire in the Liberty with some Cherry.
Nest week (later part) the highs will be in the 20's. Wonder how I'll make out in that cold? Freezing now; 32.
Low 30s this morning headed for 40 for the high. 4 split fire is going, mix of smaller oak and larger boxelder. No sun today so solar gain is no help. Inside temp at a perfect 73!
It was in the low 40's last night so we burned a bag of pellets but we switched over to a fire in the Liberty this morning. The temp is sitting at 38 this morning, almost time to do some chipping.
60 now No fire last nite. My dads been ill so Ive been firing his boiler . Last nite when I walked out the door to go fire his boiler , I heard tree frogs chirping!!! Fired the boiler and walked out the shop door and had bats flying around the mercury light !!!! WTF Reminded me of a job I did around 1997ish. Guy called and wanted a timber estimate the first week of Dec. The day I went to cruise the timber it was sunny in the 70's. We signed a contract that day and started the next. We worked in T's and flannels every day till we finished just before Xmas. Not a single day did it rain. The day we moved the equipment out it was a blizzard. The last couple loads of logs had to wait till a thaw to get out.
I was tempted, but decided to let the furnace do the work. My family is spoiled now and expect a fire always. I just don't like to burn above 55 F; 61 at the moment, 69 in the house and wife is cold. Perhaps tomorrow evening will be cool enough.
It's 55 out, and it rained all last night. Quite a bit of rain from the sounds of it this am. Box elder and pine in the stove. Watching ER, ummm I mean the NFL games. Many injuries even in the first half of the noon games so far.
48 right now 69 in the house so I just threw on some splits and went out to mark driveway for blowing if snow comes... loving the IS 24 hours on junk popular still enough coals to rake out ash and add splits presto a fire.. Granted not throwing a lot of heat but not a lot needed right now..
it was 48 last night and as long as I don't put too many in, those pieces don't burn very long. Only other heat I have is portable Electric heaters and I hate turning them on, I do use them in the other end of the house when it gets below zero though.
