It was around 5 last night and we woke up to 12 outside. Real heatwave:rofl: . Headed to upper 20 today and getting warmer the next few days. We might have another day with overnight temps below zero this week.
    Oak in the Lopi.

2c/35f and pouring rain. We still have snow but its getting eaten up quickly. It seems that much of the cold air this year has been staying to the east of the southern Canadian Rockies. Its been a long time since I recall it being this warm in December. We havent burned for a few days now. I took apart the PE yesterday and the blaze king is being installed now.

It’s a nasty tree for many reasons including the smell. Last year I cut down a few monster tree of heavens that were dead standing due to lantern flies. Thankfully the stink was gone!

18/75. Fed the firebox all my floor scraps from throwing splits into the basement, then reloaded for the night. All chestnut oak. This load marked the end of my first full row in the basement.

We are above freezing for the first time in a while, and going to stay that way until Thursday night. All the snow should melt off and make a lot of mud.

Burned some cardboard boxes in the boiler this morning. I try to save them up and get a raging hot fire every so often to clean things out. I'll load it up with whatever is closest to the door this evening.
