29/74 lumber cutoffs The temperature went up overnight. I snagged 3 garbage cans full of maple and oak lumber cutoffs yesterday.
40 and overcast. Super dry Oak in the stove. Ive had these splits stacked for 3 years and when I got them they were already stacked for 3-4 years.
That's good to know. After I sealed it I knew it would help with comfort, but never dreamed it would cut consumption as much as it has.
71F and raining. Been raining all week. Bleck. Probably won't need a fire until the rain clears and we hit the low 40s on Sat night...it feels like I'm living in Dagobah from Star Wars.
It's been getting to mid-20's overnight here. So the stove has been in 24/7 mode. I've been drawing from a rack of dead standing red oak that was blown over in '22. It had been dead for several years before becoming firewood. From a neighboring property. The barkvand sapwood are mostly gone, or flaking away. Leaves sufficient coals after 7hr for easy relight.
Sitting at -7C/20F this morning, and staying just below freezing all day. Very mild weather, so I'll take it. Pine and yard tree trash.
Good Morning! 39/67 Cloudy and not as cold as the last few mornings. Pallet wood a few chunks of very old cut up cedar posts topped off with a lopsided piece of red Oak. 15% chance of rain. Guess what it is doing right now.
Another -7C/20F morning and supposed to end up a few degrees above freezing later. Might melt the ice from the rain yesterday evening, even though there's still 2-3" of snow. I'm enjoying this warmer than normal weather for at least another 3-4 days and then back to normal. Poplar n pine for breakfast.
In the 20's this morning. I have some red oak keeping the house warm. Today is the opening day of deer season. I saw 7 deer run thru my yard just after 7 this morning. Didn't see any horns. I have only heard one shot so far today. Not many hunters out.
Currently 53, no fire. Sun finally broke through. Ran a tank of gas cutting up 4' oak splits to refill the porch stacks. Got 2 full loads. Also dropped a tree of heaven. Not necessary for firewood, but because it was blocking my sight for deer hunting. But I'll burn it.
40/72 just started the stove with ash as I did not reload this morning. Sat out with the bow for about 3 hrs this morning, saw 4 does. Youth gun weekend here. After that I dug a trench for new electric wire to feed a couple things outside. Now my shoulders are sore.
